Skin cancers are the most common neoplasms; frequently, they localize on the face. The aim of paper is to present the incidence of skin tumors in a single center from 2017 to 2019, describe trends in its frequency and find relations between neoplasms and sex, type of cancer, and its size. An analysis of histopathological files from the surgical department between 2017 and 2019 was calculated. These items were selected: sex, age, type of skin cancer, subtype of basal cell carcinoma (BCC), grading of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), localization and dimensions of the tumor. The study sample consisted of 387 cases. BCC was the most common cancer and its nodular type was the most frequent. In older patients, the vertical dimension of excised carcinoma was significantly larger. Moreover, this connection was detected only in women compared to men. There were statistically significant differences between dimensions of the skin cancer and sex. In men group, skin cancers had statistically higher vertical dimensions and larger surface areas. On the face and head, BCC more often localizes in the nasal area, while SCC on the auricle. It has been demonstrated that the older the patient, the larger the vertical dimension of the tumor. As such, tumor size is larger in men than in women, as women usually see their physicians sooner than men: cosmetic concerns are more important to them.

Background: Skin cancer is the most common malignancy with rising incidence. Although early detection can be lifesaving, prevention programmes are under-utilized. In 2008, a group of board-certified dermatologists in Switzerland established a website aimed at educating about skin cancer risk factors and providing guidance on self-assessment. Objectives: To present the data of this programme over the last 10 years with regards to representation of the targeted groups and sustained impact on primary skin cancer prevention. Materials & Methods: A comprehensive web-based health promotion campaign was established for education and guidance on self-assessment. Teledermatological evaluation was offered and participants were then interviewed. Results: In total, 11,171 digital photos were evaluated during 2008-2018; 54.3% (n = 6,067) from females and 45.7% (n = 5,104) from males. In 26.7% (n = 2,983), clinical examination was recommended. Of the participants, 1,874 replied revealing 103 malignancies (9.2% of the lesions were presented to a physician): 34 melanomas in situ, six squamous cell carcinomas, 53 basal cell carcinomas and 10 malignant lesions (not further specified). Of the participants, 40.5% (n = 683) changed their attitude towards sun exposure, 48.7% (n = 820) used more sunscreen, and 57.5% (n = 966) improved sunscreen measures. Conclusion: Web-based educational programmes raise public awareness, enhance prevention, and support early diagnosis of skin cancer. Teledermatology might contribute to reducing skin cancer mortality rates

Skin Tumors among Biopsy Samples in Patients Attending Dermatological Out Patient Department in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Nepal: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

Introduction: Skin tumors are on the rise in the Nepalese community. The different morphological pattern of skin tumors requires its meticulous categorization for understanding its effect on prognosis and treatment. Our study aimed at studying the prevalence of skin tumors among the skin biopsies performed in the dermatology outpatient department in a tertiary care hospital of Nepal. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done from skin biopsy samples from 1st January, 2017 to 31st December, 2019, at a tertiary care center. Ethical clearance was taken from the institutional review committee (IRC), Ref No: 056-077/078. Convenience sampling was done. A self-designed proforma containing questions on the patients' socio-demographic data and clinical details were used, and a biopsy of those clinically suspected to have skin tumors was done. Skin tumors were classified according to the World Health Organization 2018 classification of skin tumors. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences Version 16. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was done, and frequency and proportion were calculated. Results: A total of 671 skin biopsies were done during this study, out of which 125 (18.63%) at 95% Confidence Interval (15.68-21.57) were diagnosed with skin tumors. Among them, 77 (61.6%) were female, and 48 (38.4%) were male. Among the diagnosed cases, 105 (84%) were benign, and 20 (16%) were malignant. Conclusions: The findings from our study show the increasing prevalence of skin tumors, and the results were comparable to other similar studies conducted in various parts of Nepal.
