The scope of this study was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with negative self-rated health in menopausal women registered with the Family Health Strategy in a Brazilian urban center. It is a cross-sectional study with a random sample of menopausal women. A validated instrument addressing sociodemographic and behavioral data related to self-rated health status was used. The association between the variables studied and negative self-rated health was assessed by bivariate analysis followed by Poisson regression with robust variance, in a hierarchical model. The prevalence of negative self-rated health among the population studied was 41.6%, among 761 women. Among women aged 52-65 years old, 49.2% had negative self-rated health. Age corresponding to post-menopause, education up to eight years of study, having a partner, not having a formal job, current tobacco use and physical inactivity were associated with negative self-rated health. The presence of menopausal symptoms, overweight and obesity, the current use of medication and the presence of chronic diseases were also associated with negative self-rated health in the final model. The associations observed point to the need for health promotion activities aimed at menopausal women.

Objective: to evaluate the characteristics and intensity of climacteric symptoms in postmenopausal women. Methods: a cross-sectional, descriptive study with systematic sampling, consisting of 247 women in post menopause, who answered the Questionnaire of Women's Health. To evaluate the intensity of climacteric symptoms the Menopausal Index of Blatt and Kupperman was used. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software version 17, a significance level of 5% and 95% confidence intervals for all analyzes were adopted. Results: 36.8% of women had mild climacteric symptoms, 56.3% moderate and 6.9% severe. In descending order hot flushes, irritability and sleep disorders reached the highest intensity ratios. Conclusion: the Menopausal index of Blatt and Kupperman (25.34) showed symptoms of moderate intensity. Hot flushes showed to be the symptom of highest intensity of discomfort. Métodos: estudo transversal, descritivo. Amostra sistemática, composta de 247 mulheres em pós-menopausa, que responderam ao Questionário de Saúde da Mulher. Para avaliação da intensidade da sintomatologia climatérica, utilizou-se o Índice Menopausal de Blatt e Kupperman. A análise estatística foi realizada no software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences versão 17. Adotou-se nível de significância de 5% e intervalo de confiança 95% para todas as análises. Resultados: 36,8% das mulheres apresentaram sintomatologia climatérica leve, 56,3% moderada e 6,9% severa. Em ordem decrescente fogachos, irritabilidade e distúrbios do sono alcançaram os maiores índices de intensidade. Conclusão: o índice global Menopausal de Blatt e Kupperman (25,34) indicou sintomatologia de intensidade moderada. Fogacho mostrou-se o sintoma de maior intensidade de desconforto.

Objective: To identify the dietary profile and nutritional status of climacteric women, and the relationship between these two spheres. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 140 women between 35 and 65 years old, examined about dietary patterns and nutritional status and later analysis of the relationship between diet classification and body mass index, waist circumference, and body fat percentage. Results: The dietary pattern presented a median score, related to nutritional status of overweight and obesity, high or very high waist circumference, and percentages of high or very high fat mass; statistical association between dietary pattern classification and body mass index as well as waist circumference was found. No statistical association was found between the classification of diet and the percentage of body fat. Conclusions: These data reinforce the need for continuity of the project to elucidate the phenomenon of menopause and identify the potential risks arising from the aging process related to the climacteric.
