“…It is added that in surveys conducted with BAEP in the referred sample (15) , no differences were observed between the values of absolute latencies of components I, III and V, in the comparison between the ears (3,14,15,16,26,27) and in relation to gender (13) . The lack of difference between the ears, or regarding to gender (9,11) was also observed in studies using the LLAEP as a mean of evaluation (4,9) .…”

“…Other researchers have observed influence of age in the amplitude and latency responses in humans (27) . Using the BAEP, some authors concluded that there is no difference in hearing development between the right and left ears, which occurs simultaneously (9,(28)(29)(30) . Such findings are similar to those of the present study, considering that no statistically significant difference was found between the ears for the latency values of the components P1 and N1, as well as there were no significant results when comparing the presence and absence of the components P2 and N2 between the ears and the groups surveyed.…”

“…In the literature, there are few studies that seek to determine the influence of sex on the results of the ABR in newborns. The results are conflicting, because while some authors conclude that there are important differences between the sexes, others suggest that such differences, because they are small, have no relevant clinical expression ( 12 - 16 ) .…”

“…From the exposed arguments, plus the fact that the population of SGA newborns is a very heterogeneous group, as it might have suffered injuries at different times during intrauterine life and presents an also varied auditory behavior ( 7 , 16 ) , came the need to investigate the influence of sex and weight/gestational age in ABR responses. Thus, the present study examined the influence of the variables gender and weight/gestational age ratio in the ABR responses in preterm (PT) and term (T) infants.…”
