Abstract: Biological assays that have been performed on different types of Brazilian propolis have shown that type 6 propolis (G6) has a strong antimicrobial activity and a low flavonoid content. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the phenolic composition and the biological activities displayed by propolis G6 from the state of Bahia and green propolis, also known as type 12 (G12). The values of the flavonoids and the total phenolics in propolis G6 were different than those in propolis G12. Although the… Show more

“…Dragon's blood, followed by sage, presented low amounts of propolis. Both Propolis studied and Pomegranate present amounts of propolis [(210-160) mg GA/ g of propolis] close to the amount of phenols found in a propolis extract from Minas Gerais, southeast of Brazil, ~170 mg GA/ g of propolis [36]. The amounts of phenolic compounds are considerably above the minimum amounts of phenols required by the Brazilian National Agency of Heath Survaillance -ANVISA to certify that it is an effective propolis extract, 0.50% w/w [37].…”

“…A própolis tem sido empregada como um importante fitoterápico devido aos estudos que revelaram seu potencial antibacteriano, anti-inflamatório, antiviral, antifúngico e imunomodulatório (Castro 2001, Sforcin & Bankova 2011, Cabral et al 2012, Portilho et al 2013). Também, apresenta propriedades farmacoterapêuticas que a coloca como possível alternativa ao uso dos antibióticos.…”

“…In this way, the composition of propolis is a reflex of vegetable flora, which serves bees (Somnez et al 2005;Cabral et al 2012). Geopropolis is produced by Meliponinae bees, which collect resinous material from plants and bring to the beehive, mix with wax and clay or soil (Dutra et al 2008).…”
