“…A total of 323 specimens were dissected. Data from Gaza compta Simone and Cunha, 2006, Lithopoma tectum (Lightfoot, 1786), Calliostoma tupinamba Dornellas, 2012, C. adspersum (Philippi, 1851), Solariella obscura (Couthouy, 1838), Carolesia blakei and Omphalius nigerrimus (Gmelin, 1791) were compiled from the literature (Monteiro and Coelho, 2002; Simone and Cunha, 2006; Simone, 2011; Dornellas, 2012; Dornellas and Simone, 2013, 2015; Güller and Zelaya, 2014; respectively), complemented by novel photographic material. The last two species listed were crucial in improving ingroup taxonomic coverage as there was no material available for dissection; they were analyzed in a separate analysis.…”

“…Nowadays, detailed studies on squid anatomy are scarce, even though morphological data have proved to be very useful in producing phylogenetic hypotheses and defining relationships within mollusk groups (e.g., Simone, 2011;Couto et al, 2015;Dornellas & Simone, 2015). There are more recent papers about molecular analyses than morphological studies.…”
