Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess the activity of aqueous (AE) and ethanolic extracts (EE) and pilocarpine hydrochloride, which were extracted and isolated from Pilocarpus microphyllus (Jaborandi), respectively, on Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed to quantify these compounds. Larval packet and adult immersion tests were conducted with different concentrations. Five AE and EE concentrations, ranging from 6.2 to 100.0 mg mL–1, and six concentratio… Show more

“…Based on the potent in vitro antiproliferative effect, further in vivo studies to assess the efficiency and safety of BcAEF were done. The toxic effects observed for BcAEF in the acute toxicity protocol were quite similar to those described for pilocarpine, the alkaloid extracted from Pilocarpus microphyllus leaves [19]. Pilocarpine is a cholinergic agonist used as convulsive inductor in non-clinical epilepsy models [20] and to treat xerostomia by stimulation of saliva production [21].…”

“…Mesmo com poucas tecnologias e artigos registrados para outras espécies do grupo, a pilocarpina foi registrada para quase todos os representantes. Além disso, outros metabólitos secundários com atividade biológica foram recentemente reportados para o grupo, o que vem a agregar valor pelo potencial medicinal futuro (LIMA et al, 2015;CASTRO et al, 2016).…”

“…The acaricidal effect of Andiroba seed oil on Anocentor nitens, R. microplus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus was studied in vitro: it presented 100% efficacy at all dilutions tested for all species (Farias et al 2009(Farias et al , 2012. Other plants tested in vitro on R. microplus with good effects are Araucaria angustifolia (Castro et al 2009), Sapindus saponaria (Fernandes et al 2005), Simarouba versicolor (Pires 2006), and Pilocarpus microphyllus (Castro et al 2016). The susceptibility of R. microplus larvae to different dissolution methods of thymol has also been studied (Matos et al 2014).…”
