Abstract: There is little information on the humoral response of sheep experimentally infected with Echinococcus granulosus. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate this response and measure its evolution. Doses of 10, 100, 1000 and 10000 E. granulosus eggs were prepared and inoculated via intraruminal puncture. Blood samples were obtained before inoculation and every 48 h after inoculation, until they became seropositive. Thereafter, they were taken monthly for the first year and then every three months until… Show more

“…Consistent with the genome of E granulosus G1 genotype, AgB2, which some authors considered as a hallmark for CE diagnosis, was found in the EGPE 70 kDa band protein extract. Our results also demonstrated a positive reactivity of sera from experimentally infected sheep, in agreement with their humoral response, thus validating the antigenic properties of EGPE protein extracts for the recognition of serum from CE intermediate hosts.…”

“…The differences observed in serum recognition of proteins from the “short” and “long” stages suggest that different antigenic proteins are expressed in EGPE over time, or that differences are a function of the immunological response elicited by the parasite as the disease evolves . These findings support the need for further characterization of protein identity and diversity in each of the reactive bands.…”

“…Adult tapeworms of the E. granulosus species were obtained from five dogs (gender, female; age, 18 months; obtained from Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Lanzhou, China) using arecoline hydrobromide (Shanghai Seebio Biotech, Inc., Shanghai, China) and isolated from the mature proglottids under an XSP-37XB inverse microscope (Qianke, Shanghai, China). The procedure was performed as previously described by Lamberti et al (16). Briefly, dogs were given an oral dose (4 mg/kg) of arecoline hydrobromide.…”

“…A primary infection with oncospheres usually can induce total or a light degree of protection against a subsequent challenge. The created immunity to reinfection after a primary infection through either oral administration of E. granulosus eggs [ 22 ] and/or the parenteral injection of activated oncospheres or eggs had been reported [ 23 ]. In other words, natural immunity can be stimulated in intermediate host as the result of primary infection [ 13 , 24 , 25 ].…”
