Abstract: We report the finding of Amblyomma aureolatum (Acari: Ixodidae) parasitizing margay (Leopardus wiedii) in the locality of Gravataí (29° 47' 12.9'' S and 50° 53' 44.1'' W; 241 m alt.), State of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. This is the first report of this species of Ixodidae on margay in Southern Brazil. This finding indicates an increased number of hosts for this tick species.

“…The variety of natural environments and climates occurring in this country is impressive and favours the establishment of different parasites in all geographical regions. In the same way, dogs and cats living in either urban or rural areas may eventually live in close contact with livestock and wildlife species (e.g., foxes, wild cats, and opossums), which ultimately may favour the exchange of ectoparasites such as fleas and ticks with these animals [320-323]. For instance, R. sanguineus s.l.…”

“…vogeli antibodies. So, what is known that A. aureolatum, tick involved in the transmission of R. vitalii, is found in this Brazilian state (Evans et al, 2000;Martins et al, 2010;Gauger et al, 2013;Soares et al, 2014) and also, unlike other Brazilian regions, the RS is not regarded as an endemic area for babesiosis. Additionally, seven animals were seropositive for anti-B.…”

“…In Santa Catarina State, we identified A. aureolatumin wild felines and canines; and its presence in oncilla confirms the occurrence of ixodids in wild felines of Santa Catarina. Martins et al (2010) also recorded parasitism by this species in margays (Leopardus wiedii), in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul State.…”
