Color stability evaluation of aesthetic restorative materials

Abstract: Color match is one of the most important characteristics of aesthetic restorative materials. Maintenance of color throughout the functional lifetime of restorations is important for the durability of treatment. This characteristic is not constant among dental materials. The purpose of this research was to assess the color stability of five aesthetic restorative materials when immersed in a coffee solution. Seventy-one 17 mm x 1 mm specimens, divided into five groups, were made using one direct composite resin … Show more

“…In practice, these formulas are interchangeable [31] and their values are highly correlated [32]. Therefore, in this study we decided to use the well-know DE values as color measurement [1,2,11,26]. It should be noted that when performing this evaluation, the clinical interpretation is important.…”

“…Sustained color stability of dental restorative materials remains a challenging factor as it differentiates between restorations' success and failure [1,2]. In this context, materials' properties and fabrication techniques play an important role determining the behavior of the material, which ensure restorations' success.…”

“…A correlation was also found between degree of conversion and composite solubility as well as solubility and salivary sorption 17) . Incompletely polymerized composites have greater susceptibility to discoloration due to the larger amount of residual mononers available to form colored degraded products 18) . The degree of conversion is influenced by Bis-GMA content and co-monomer types with TEGDMA mixtures resulting in higher conversion than BisEMA (Ethoxylated Bisphenol-A Dimethacrylate) blends 19) .…”

“…1,2 Even though the mechanical and optical properties of the ceramic materials are important, many variables may contribute to the predictability and clinical longevity of all-ceramic restorations, including the adhesive and luting system used, the curing mechanism, the light-curing unit, and the microstructure and thickness of the ceramic. 3 Resin cements are necessary to bond porcelain and glass-ceramic resto-…”
