Tensile bond strength of glass fiber posts luted with different cements

Abstract: Proper selection of the luting agent is fundamental to avoid failure due to lack of retention in post-retained crowns. The objective of this study was to investigate the tensile bond strength and failure mode of glass fiber posts luted with different cements. Glass fiber posts were luted in 40 mandibular premolars, divided into 4 groups (n = 10): Group 1--resin-modified glass ionomer RelyX Luting; Group 2--resin-modified glass ionomer Fuji Plus; Group 3--resin cement RelyX ARC; Group 4--resin cement Enforce. “…13,29 This may be related to the fact that the main role of intracanal posts is to promote the retention of the filling material onto the remaining dental structure. 12,13,29,30 Both restorative procedures tested in this study proved feasible for restoring the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth submitted to bleaching. Furthermore, the use of intracanal posts did not increase the resistance of bleached teeth.…”

“…However, the present investigation followed a methodology focused on dentin adhesion-an approach that revealed to be more adequate for the analysis of the quality of interfacial integrity [29]. Some advantages related to the use of CLSM may also be taken into consideration, especially in comparison to the high vacuum scanning electron microscopy (SEM) the most traditional image method used to analyze the dentin tissues and root filling materials.…”
