The nutritional status of patients submitted to hematopoietic stem cell transplant is considered an independent risk factor, which may influence on quality of life and tolerance to the proposed treatment. The impairment of nutritional status during hematopoietic stem cell transplant occurs mainly due to the adverse effects resulting from conditioning to which the patient is subjected. Therefore, adequate nutritional evaluation and follow-up during hematopoietic stem cell transplant are essential. To emphasize the importance of nutritional status and body composition during treatment, as well as the main characteristics related to the nutritional assessment of the patient, the Brazilian Consensus on Nutrition in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant: Adults was prepared, aiming to standardize and update Nutritional Therapy in this area. Dietitians, nutrition physicians and hematologists from 15 Brazilian centers thar are references in hematopoietic stem cell transplant took part.

This review aimed to analyze the scientific production on severity of oral mucositis as an adverse effect of chemotherapy. To this end, we performed a search at PubMed databases combining the keywords “oral mucositis” and “chemotherapy protocol”. To describe the investigation, the following variables were considered: journal, year/place, study design, sample, protocol used and incidence of oral mucositis. A total of 547 articles were retrieved, of which 26 were selected. Out of these 26, only 2 reported severity of oral mucositis; the others only reported the presence of the condition. Protocols for treating different types of carcinoma were evaluated in 16 (61.53%) studies, for hematological malignancies in 6 (23.07%), and for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in 4 (15.4%). Protocols for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation entail a high risk for oral mucositis, just as chemotherapy with cytarabine and high-dose 5-fluorouracil, alkylating agents and platinumbased compounds. To provide the best prevention and treatment for oral mucositis, it is essential to know the chemotherapy protocols used and their effects on the oral cavity.

Introdução: A Leucemia Linfoide Aguda (LLA) é uma malignidade comum na infância, com representatividade próxima dos 80% entre as leucemias e trata-se do aumento do número de células linfoides imaturas nos órgãos hematopoiéticos. A quimioterapia é o método terapêutico de primeira escolha, o que torna os pacientes susceptíveis a complicações em cavidade oral. Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre as alterações orais secundárias ao tratamento quimioterápico em pacientes pediátricos portadores de LLA, os respectivos tratamentos e a importância da inserção do cirurgião-dentista como integrante da equipe multidisciplinar. Materiais e métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, com buscas nas seguintes bases de dados: Pubmed, SciELO e Google Acadêmico. Os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos publicados entre os anos 2000 a 2020, redigidos em inglês, português e espanhol, que abordassem a temática proposta. Um total de 70 publicações foram selecionadas. Resultados: Dentre os agravos bucais em decorrência da quimioterapia, a mucosite oral, que compreende lesões inflamatórias dolorosas, encontra-se em maior evidência. Adicionalmente, a xerostomia, disfagia, disgeusia e infecções oportunistas se manifestam com frequência nesses pacientes. Tais alterações podem ou não ocorrer em associação, ocasionando complicações sistêmicas que afetam diretamente o tempo e intensidade do tratamento, além do aumento dos custos e diminuição da sobrevida desses pacientes. Considerações finais: Diante do exposto, é importante que o cirurgião-dentista integre a equipe multiprofissional de cuidados ao paciente oncopediátrico, visando minimizar o impacto de tais manifestações antes, durante e após a terapia antineoplásica, com o objetivo de melhorar a qualidade de vida desses pacientes.
