Anuros da Estação Ecológica de Santa Bárbara, um remanescente de formações abertas de Cerrado no estado de São Paulo

Abstract: Abstract:Although São Paulo is the state with the most knowledge about anurans from Brazil, it still has important knowledge gaps about this group especially in the remnants of the Cerrado Biome. Only 0.5% of this biome is protected by conservation units in the state and remaining fragments suffer threats that include isolation, risk of fire and invasion by exotic plant species. The aim of this study was to obtain information on anurans species recorded at Estação Ecológica de Santa Bárbara, one of the few rem… Show more

“…Young individuals of Physalaemus cuvieri and P. centralis are very difficult to identify in the field and thus both species were here considered together as Physalaemus cuvieri/centralis. Almost all species of frogs and lizards sampled in this study are grassland and savanna specialists (e.g., Brasileiro et al, 2005;Araujo et al, 2013Araujo et al, , 2014. The few exceptions are habitat generalists that can be found in areas of forest as well as in disturbed areas (e.g., Ameiva ameiva among lizards and Physalaemus cuvieri among frogs).…”

“…Several protected areas in the southern portion of the Cerrado include a mosaic of typical vegetation types of the biome (from grasslands to woodlands), which has contributed to maintaining a high species diversity of amphibians and reptiles within their limits (Sawaya et al 2008;Araujo et al 2010Araujo et al , 2013Araujo et al , 2014Araujo and Almeida-Santos 2011). Thus, these protected areas may guarantee the persistence of populations of several species, contributing to the conservation of this rich fauna.…”

“…Abundance was higher in the rainy season than in the dry season, which is associated to the permeable skin of anurans and their strong dependence on humidity, mild air temperatures, and rainfall for reproduction (Duellman and Trueb 1994;Santos et al 2007). For anurans, differences observed in species composition and abundance in different environments can be strongly correlated with variations in microhabitat availability, including those suitable for reproduction (Pombal Jr. and Haddad 2007;Araújo et al 2013), hydric resources (Gambale et al 2014), temperature (Haddad and Prado 2005;Saenz et al 2006), vegetation structural complexity (Souza et al 2008) and edaphic factors (Menin et al 2007).…”
