Checklist dos percevejos-do-mato (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomoidea) do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil

Abstract: Pentatomoidea knowledge in São Paulo state is here updated. Two hundred and two species in 92 genera belonging to Acanthosomatidae, Canopidae, Cydnidae, Pentatomidae, Phloeidae, Scutelleridae, Tessaratomidae and Thyreocoridae are registered. Forty one species were added and 13 taxonomical and nomenclatorial corrections were made comparing with the data presented in the first edition of the Biota SP in 1999. Pentatomoidea species richness of São Paulo state is around 25% of the species known to Brazil and aroun… Show more

“…Because disjunct distributions in terrestrial insects are unusual, especially when a particular species occurs at a broad geographic scale, the most likely scenario is that the distribution pattern of D. mactabilis is still largely unknown, as predicted by Grazia and Schwertner (2011). We believe this species is likely distributed along at least the south portion of the Atlantic Forest and should occur also in the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina.…”

“…Dinidoridae is a small family of Pentatomoidea that comprises 115 species divided into 13 genera (Grazia and Schwertner 2011). Species of this family have elliptical large body (9-30 mm), aposematic coloration with black or brown body covered with red marks, laterally keeled head and short scutellum.…”

“…According to Monte (1937), the color variations of P. torridus are not hereditary and the factors that may contribute to the differentiation of a color are diverse and complex, however the factors involved in the polychromatism of P. torridus have not yet been identified. Grazia & Schwertner (2011) in a checklist about biodiversity of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, emphasized that the Scutelleridae family needs of taxonomic revision and highlighted the importance of the developing of tools to identification and dissemination of the knowledge of the group. Souza et al (2012) also emphasize that the high chromatic variation of P. torridus makes necessary to describe new phenotypes to assure its correct taxonomic identification.…”

“…The insects of the Scutelleridae family are popularly known as shield-backed bug, due to its scutellum which covers the whole body (Grazia & Schwertner 2011). A striking feature of Scutelleridae is intraspecific phenotypic variability, as can be observed in the species Poecilocoris lewisi (Distant, 1883), Pachycoris klugii (Burmeister, 1835) and Pachycoris torridus (Scopoli, 1772) (Miyamoto & Kosaku 2002, Peredo 2002.…”

“…A subfamília Pentatominae, alvo deste guia, é a mais diversa e abundante de Pentatomidae, com 3.336 espécies reunidas em 621 gêneros no mundo e aproximadamente 338 espécies e mais de 70 gêneros no Brasil (Grazia & Schwertner 2011;Rider 2011). É também a subfamília mais frequentemente coletada e que apresenta o maior número de espécies consideradas pragas de plantas cultivadas.…”
