Uma atualização da lista de Cladocera Cladocera (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) do Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil

Abstract: The present study aimed to identify the Cladocera species present in 15 samples of zooplankton, taken occasionally between 1981 and 2001, from the Counties of Recife, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Paulista e Escada (state of Pernambuco, Brazil). In total, 32 species were reported; 10 of them represent first records, which increased to 51 the number of species known to occur in Pernambuco state. The highest cladoceran species richness was observed in water bodies where macrophytes were more abundant and with more sa… Show more

“…The dominance of the Chydoridae family was also reported by other researchers (Elmoor-Loureiro, 2007b;Elmoor-Loureiro and Mendonça-Galvão, 2008;Maia-Barbosa et al, 2008;Sousa and Elmoor-Loureiro, 2008;Castilho-Noll et al, 2010;Soares and Elmoor-Loureiro, 2011) (Table 4). This fact may be related to the peculiar characteristics of organisms in this family that have a thicker shell, spines and appendages specialized in grasping substrates, allowing greater mobility and success in the littoral lake areas.…”

“…Accordingly, this study stands out by representing one of the first monthly surveys on the diversity of planktonic and non-planktonic cladocerans in temporary environments of Caatinga provinces. In a recent update of the list of cladocerans to Pernambuco, the occurrence of 51 taxa was verified (Soares and Elmoor-Loureiro, 2011). Thus, the two new occurrences in Pernambuco (Chydorus cf.…”

“…The increase in the number of taxa, new records of occurrence and the need to make the information more widely available, since it has so far been restricted to the "gray literature" and in collections, have led to the publication of updated lists of species of cladocerans for some Brazilian states (Soares and Elmoor-Loureiro, 2011;Rocha et al, 2011;Santos-Wisniewski et al, 2011). Lists such as these provide important bases for new investigations, whether in the field of biogeography, ecology or conservation.…”
