The Biological Reserve of Una, located in the south of Bahia, is a region with v ery little information about the composition, diversity and spatial distribution of the species. The objective of the present study was to know the composition and structure of the fish assembly of the streams of Biological Reserve of Una – REBIO. Four sampl es were taken at sev en points distributed in six streams, one being outside the reserve limits, between February 2011 and March 2012. The specimens were captured with trawls of the picaré and puçá type. In the field, the specimens were anesthetized, fixed in 10% formaldehyde and placed in 70% alcohol. The species were identified with specialized bibliography. The specimens that remained in doubt were sent to specialists from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) for identification. Then the material was deposited in the scientific collection of the State University of Santa Cruz (UESC). The occurrence constancy index, Shannon Diversity Index, Margalef Wealth and the Pielou Equity index were applied. In the ecological indexes, the ABC curv es and the MDS ordering method were calculated. A similarity matrix was calculated from the Bray Curtis index. W statistic consisting of a numerical summary of the ABC curve was applied. The t - test was used to verify the lev el of significance at 9 5%. A total of 5549 individuals belonging to 4 orders, 9 families and 22 species were collected, of which 8 had indefinite taxonomic status, which confirms that the region is little explored from the point of view of the ichthyofauna. The results indicate the dominance of opportunistic species and demonstrate the influence of environmental conserv ation on the composition of the fish congregation. The lack of studies in the region and human occupation refl ect the presence of undescribed species and the risk of extinction and the creation of a conservation strategy.

This study compared the parasite communities of Hoplias malabaricus and Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus from Amazon river system. Hoplias malabaricus were infected by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Piscinoodinium pillulare, Tetrahymena sp., Urocleidoides eremitus, Braga patagonica, metacercariae of Clinostomum marginatum, Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus, larvae of Contracaecum sp. and larvae of Nomimoscolex matogrossensis. Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus were also infected by these same species of protozoans, nematodes, digeneans and cestodes, except for Tetrahymena sp. and B. patagonica, which were replaced by Argulus pestifer, Urocleidoides sp., Whittingtonocotyle caetei, Whittingtonocotyle jeju and Gorytocephalus spectabilis. For both hosts, I. multifiliis and P. pillulare were the predominant parasites. Most of the parasites presented an overdispersion. Parasite species richness, Brillouin diversity, evenness and Berger-Parker dominance were similar for the two hosts. The length and weight of H. malabaricus showed a positive correlation with the abundance of U. eremitus and Contracaecum sp., while the weight of H. unitaeniatus showed a positive correlation with the abundance of I. multifiliis. The diversity of ectoparasites seemed to be influenced by the behavior of these two hosts. This was shown by the similar parasite communities and was characterized by low species diversity, low evenness and low richness, and by a high prevalence of ectoparasites.Keywords: Amazon, diversity, Erythrinidae, overdispersion, parasites infracommunity. ResumoEste estudo comparou a comunidade parasitária de Hoplias malabaricus e Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus do sistema do Rio Amazonas. The Patos Lagoon basin is a large (201 626 km(2) ) and complex drainage system in southern Brazil. The lagoon is 250 km long and 60 km wide, covering an area of 10 360 km(2) . The exchange of water with the Atlantic Ocean occurs through a 0·8 km wide and 15 m deep inlet, fixed by 4 km long jetties, at the southernmost part of the Patos Lagoon. The estuarine area is restricted to its southern portion (10%), although the upper limit of saline waters migrates seasonally and year to year, influenced by the wind regime and river discharge. The known number of recorded limnetic fish species is 200, but this number is expected to increase. A higher endemism is observed in fish species occurring in upper tributaries. The basin suffers from the direct impact of almost 7 million inhabitants, concentrated in small to large cities, most with untreated domestic effluents. There are at least 16 non-native species recorded in natural habitats of the Patos Lagoon basin, about half of these being from other South American river basins. Concerning the fishery, although sport and commercial fisheries are widespread throughout the Patos Lagoon basin, the lagoon itself and the estuarine area are the main fishing areas. Landing statistics are not available on a regular basis or for the whole basin. The fishery in the northern Patos Lagoon captures 31 different species, nine of which are responsible for most of the commercial catches, but only three species are actually sustaining the artisanal fishery: the viola Loricariichthys anus: 455 kg per 10 000 m(2) gillnet per day, the mullet Mugil liza: 123 kg per 10 000 m(2) gillnet per day and the marine catfish Genidens barbus: 50 kg per 10 000 m(2) gillnet per day. A decline of the fish stocks can be attributed to inadequate fishery surveillance, which leads to overfishing and mortality of juveniles, or to decreasing water quality because of urban and industrial activities and power production. Global climatic changes also represent a major threat to the Patos system by changing the frequency of El Niño-La Niña-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
