Digestibility markers of sheep diets containing hydrolyzed sugarcane-top hay

Abstract: SUMMARY This experiment evaluated the correlation between the estimates of fecal digestibility and dry matter digestibility (DMD) and nutrients obtained using internal (indigestibles dry materiDM, neutral detergent fiber-iNDF, acid detergent fiber-iADF and acid detergent ligniniADL) and external (chromium oxide-Cr2O3, titanium dioxide-TiO2, and purified and enriched lignin from eucalyptus-LIPE®) markers and the values obtained by the total feces collection method. Twenty uncastrated male sheep, with 29.64±5.53… Show more

“…Similarly, Souza et al (2015) evaluated using TD as an alternative to CO for estimating FP and ADMD and observed that CO overestimated FP and the results for these two parameters were more accurate using TD. Moreira Filho et al (2017) indicated that CO, TD, and IDM were effective in estimating FP and ADMD, with correlation coefficients higher than 90% relative to TC. FP estimated by IADF was 54.06% lower than that by TC.…”

“…Internal indicators consist of the non-degradable dry matter fractions of chemical constituents of the feed, where it is common to use indigestible Dry Matter (DMi) or specific components of the cell wall, such as indigestible Neutral Detergent Fibre (NDFi), indigestible Acid Detergent Fibre (ADFi) and Indigestible Lignin (LIGi) (Barros et al, 2007). These indicators have the advantage of being present in the feed and generally remaining uniformly distributed in the digesta during the process of digestion and excretion (Moreira Filho et al, 2017). However, the degree of faecal recovery varies widely, which may compromise the precision and accuracy of the estimates of digestibility (Kozloski et al, 2009).…”
