Buckwheat has become important in the food sector as its flour does not contain gluten. Since buckwheat is a relatively new crop in the agricultural environment, there is little information available regarding its processing. Drying is one of the most important post-harvest stages of buckwheat. The aim of the present study was to describe the drying process of buckwheat grains. Buckwheat grains with a moisture content of 0.41 ± 0.01 (dry basis, d.b.) were harvested, followed by drying in an experimental dryer at the temperatures of 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 °C, at an air speed of 0.8 m s-1. The drying rate was determined, and the mathematical models generally employed to describe the drying process of several agricultural products were fitted to the experimentally obtained data. Model selection was based on the Gauss-Newton non-linear regression method and was complemented by Akaike Information Criterion and Schwarz’s Bayesian Information Criterion. It was concluded that the drying rate increased with an increase in temperature and decreased with an increase in drying time. It is recommended to use the Midilli model to represent the drying kinetics of buckwheat grains at the temperatures of 40, 60, and 70 °C, while the Approximation of diffusion model is recommended for the temperatures of 50 and 80 °C. The magnitudes of effective diffusion coefficients ranged from 1.8990 × 10-11 m2 s-1 to 17.8831 × 10-11 m2 s-1. The activation energy required to initiate the drying process was determined to be 49.75 kJ mol-1.

O estudo aborda o tema “Utilização de plantas de cobertura como alternativa de manejo sustentável”. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, pautada nos pressupostos teóricos de vários autores e fontes sobre o tema abordado no presente estudo. Nestes termos, o estudo teve como principal objetivo apresentar informações relacionadas a utilização de plantas de cobertura como alternativa de manejo sustentável, com a finalidade de gerar informações que auxiliem pesquisas futuras, bem como para nortear produtores quanto a implementação dessa prática visando a conservação ambiental. O estudo se justifica devido ao aumento da população mundial demandar uma grande quantidade de alimentos produzidos, o que se torna um desafio, produzir em quantidade e com qualidade considerando a sustentabilidade. Diante dessa problemática, as plantas de cobertura quando adequadamente utilizadas constituem uma estratégia para melhoria dos atributos físicos, químicos e biológicos do solo agregando incremento na produtividade e sustentabilidade ao sistema agrícola. Como resultado percebe-se que a utilização de plantas de cobertura é uma alternativa promissora para implementar a produção sustentável almejada pela agricultura moderna.

The aim of this study was to determine the rate of node appearance (RNA), the final number of nodes (FNN) and the period of node emission (PNE) in two buckwheat cultivars (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) for different sowing dates, and to check variability in the RNA, FNN and PNE between the cultivars and sowing dates. The IPR91-Baili and IPR92-Altar cultivars were evaluated for 29 and 31 sowing dates from October to May in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 agricultural years respectively. In each experiment, a completely randomised design with five replications was used. The number of nodes (NN) on the main stem was counted twice a week in each plant (replication), from emission of the first node until the end of the cycle. The linear regression (y = a + bx) of the number of nodes (NN, y) was adjusted for each plant based on the number of days after emergence (DAE, x). The rate of node appearance (RNA), in days node-1, was determined from the inverse of the slope of the linear regression between NN and DAE (RNA = 1/b). The RNA was calculated for the period of node emission (PNE, in days), i.e. from emergence to emission of the last node. The final number of nodes (FNN) was counted at the end of node emission. Variability was found in the rate of node appearance (RNA), the final number of nodes (FNN) and the period of node emission (PNE) between the cultivars and sowing dates. The rate of node appearance ranges between 2.20 and 8.23 days node-1, the final number of nodes between 2.20 and 17.20, and the period of node emission between 16.60 and 49.20 days. Plants of the IPR91-Baili and IPR92-Altar cultivars show better vegetative development (lower RNA, higher FNN and greater PNE) when sown in November, December, January and February, compared to those sown in October, March, April and May.
