First record of the fruit fly parasitoid Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in Brazil

Abstract: Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck) was recorded in the states of Amapá and Roraima, Brazil. This is also the first time that this parasitoid is associated with Anastrepha atrigona Hendel from Geissospermum argenteum.

“…The most recently reported was D. crawfordi (Zucchi et al 2011b). Out of the 407 parasitoid specimens observed in this study, 57.2% were D. areolatus, the parasitoid most widely distributed in Brazil (Leonel Junior et al 1995, Canal & Zucchi 2000 and Latin America (Ovruski et al 2000).…”

“…In that work, Marsaro Júnior et al (2011b) updated the number of Anastrepha species recorded in Roraima (17). New studies conducted after that time (MARSARO JÚNIOR et al, 2011a;2013a;2013b;ZUCCHI et al, 2011a;lIMA et al, 2012;TRASSATO et al, 2015) expanded the existing knowledge about fruit l ies in Roraima, where 25 species of Anastrepha, 27 species of host plants and six species of parasitoids have been reported to date.…”

“…6 In South and Southeast region fruit flies are major pest of citrus [7][8][9] and they can be controlled by some species of Braconidae such as Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti) and Diachasmimorpha longicaudata (Ashmead). Another example of the importance of Braconidae for citrus is some aphids that are controlled by Lysiphlebus testaceipes (Cresson) but very little is known about the diversity of Braconidae in the Amazon region.Several works on diversity of fruit flies and their parasitoids contributed not in a direct way to the knowledge of Braconidae in the Amazon region [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] Those works lack on information about Braconidae that is more specific about identification and ecology. There is only three works treating Braconidae diversity in more specific way in Amazonian region and they are not associated with crops.…”
