Horário de atividade de machos de Euglossina (Hymenoptera: Apidae) e preferência por fragrâncias artificiais em mata e dunas na Área de Proteção Ambiental da Barra do Rio Mamanguape, Rio Tinto, PB

Abstract: -Euglossina bees form a group with about 200 species known, widespread in Neotropical Region. Males collect aromatic compounds on fl owers and by using synthesized analogs it is possible to accomplish faunistic inventories and study several ecological aspects of these bees. In this work we studied the activity hours and the preference of aromatic compounds by Euglossina males in forest and dunes at Environmental Protection Area of the Mamanguape River Bar, Rio Tinto, Paraíba State, between August 2002 and July… Show more

“…Whatever the reasons, the fact is that El. felipei was never recorded outside ESEC Murici in any previous field study in the "Centro de Endemismo Pernambuco" (Bezerra and Martins, 2001;Martins and Souza, 2005;Milet-Pinheiro and Schlindwein, 2005;Darrault et al, 2006;Farias et al, 2007Farias et al, , 2008Moura and Schlindwein, 2009; this study). If it is true, we hypothesise that a high level of endogamy may be present in this species, one additional factor, besides (and most probably a consequence of) its restricted geographic distribution, to threaten this species.…”

“…In this study, the bees were caught between 9:15 a.m. and 01:47 p.m., with the peak of activity recorded between 11:00 a.m and 01:00 p.m. Santos and Sofia (2002), like Farias et al (2007) found a sharp decline in activity of these bees from 01:00 p.m. According to Oliveira (1999), the time of highest activity for most species of Euglossina in the Central Amazon in Brazil takes place between 09:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. (with temperature ranging between 24.5 º and 27.0 ºC), with a peak in abundance and diversity of individuals at 11:00 a.m. To this author several factors influence the activity of these insects such as the local temperature and supply of floral resources.…”

“…Em estudos realizados nas áreas de floresta atlântica do Brasil, eucaliptol (= cineol), eugenol e vanilina (= baunilha) foram utilizados em todos eles (rebêlo & Garófalo 1991(rebêlo & Garófalo , 1997Garófalo et al 1998;Peruquetti et al 1999;JeSuS & Garófalo 2000;bezerra & MartinS 2001;brito & rêGo 2001;Silva & rebêlo 2002;tonhaSca et al 2002b;neMéSio 2003;Sofia & Suzuki 2004;Millet-Pinheiro & SchlinDWein 2005;Souza et al 2005;neMéSio & Silveira 2006;fariaS et al 2007, 2008neMéSio 2008;neMéSio 2010;Mattozo et al 2011;neMéSio 2011 Peruquetti et al 1999;brito & rêGo 2001;Silva & rebêlo 2002;fariaS et al 2007).
