Abstract: -The objective of this study was to evaluate the toxicity of some pesticides used in chrysanthemum crops to eggs and nymphs of Orius insidiosus (Say). The bioassays were carried out at 25 ± 2ºC, 70 ± 10% RH and 12h photophase. For the tests with eggs, stems of Bidens pilosa L. previously exposed to predator oviposition were dipped for five seconds in aqueous dilution of the pesticides, using 40 eggs per treatment. The pesticides were applied on nymphs using a Potter's tower. Forty first-instar and twenty secon… Show more

“…Thus, the insecticides used for pest control on watermelon crop may not only kill the target organisms but also non-target beneficial organisms (ARMENTA et al, 2003;JAMES, 2003, TORRES;RUBERSON, 2004;KOSS et al, 2005;ROCHA et al, 2006). Although the insecticides mentioned above are officially registered to be used against pests in watermelon cropping in Brazil (AGROFIT, 2012), their effects on non-target organisms present on this cropping systems, such as beneficial arthropods have not yet been investigated.…”

“…Insecticides can damage the environment and are often injurious to natural predators (Silva et al 2005;Campiche et al 2006;Rocha et al 2006). When used as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, they should be efficient against pests, but also have a low toxicity to biological control organisms (Mohaghegh et al 2000).…”
