Abstract: Multiple-locus variable number-tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) isolates may contribute to the knowledge of strain diversity in Argentina. Although the diversity of MAP has been previously investigated in Argentina using IS900-RFLP, a small number of isolates were employed, and a low discriminative power was reached. The aim of the present study was to test the genetic diversity among MAP isolates using an MLVA approach based on 8 repetitive loci. We studie… Show more

“…The main patterns found among the studied MAP isolates were INMV 1 and 2. These findings were in agreement with those previously reported as the most prevalent in different parts of the world [29,37]. The prevalence reported by the MAC-INMV database for the most common patterns were INMV 1: 27•92% and INMV 2: 23•71% (http://mac-inmv.…”

“…Two cattle-type domestic isolates were identified as INMV 2, while other foreign isolates were identified as INMV 1 or INMV 2, except for 1 isolate identified as INMV 5 from Slovakia. The INMV 1 and INMV 2 are the most prevalent types observed worldwide [ 1 6 9 16 25 ], and the INMV 5 type has been reported in Argentina and Germany [ 8 11 ]. In this study, no unique INMV types were observed in the MIRU-VNTR genotyping results.…”
