Presence of blaTEM-116 gene in environmental isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas jandaei from Brazil

Abstract: It is known that Aeromonas spp. possess different chromosomal -lactamase genes. Presence and phenotypic expression of bla TEM , bla SHV, and bla CTX-M ESBL-encoding genes were investigated in environmental water isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas jandaei. Presence of bla SHV and bla CTX-M genes was not observed, and bla TEM gene was verified in 91% of the isolates. Sequencing of 10 fragments showed the occurrence of bla

“…are among the few microorganisms harboring different chromosomal β-lactamase genes, including cphA , cepH and ampH , encoding class B, C and D β-lactamases, respectively (8). Among the clinical populations of Gram-negative microorganisms, bla TEM-1 is the most frequently detected antimicrobial resistance gene.…”

“…Aeromonas spp. is among the few bacteria with several chromosomal β-lactamase genes, including cphA, cepH and ampH which encode class B, C and D β-lactamases respectively (Balsalobre et al 2009;Balsalobre et al 2010). However, susceptibility of Aeromonas spp.…”

“…In the present study, the majority of V. parahaemolyticus strains were resistant to ampicilin. In addition, bla TEM genes have recently been detected in many Brazilian environmental bacteria 2 . Therefore, we also investigated the presence of bla TEM genes in V. parahaemolyticus strains by PCR.…”
