Newcastle disease virus vaccine strains: immunogenicity is not influenced by ICPI

Abstract: Intracerebral pathogenicity index (ICPI) and mean death time (MDT) were determined using commercial live vaccines against Newcastle disease available in Brazil. The ICPI profiles obtained for B1 vaccine strains were nonvirulent and varied from 0 to 0.19, and their MDT was 104-116 hours. The LaSota strains had an ICPI varying between 0.02 and 0.37 and MDT from 92 to 116 hours. ICPI and MDT for the Clone 30 were 0.11 and 104 hours, respectively. For Ulster vaccines, ICPI and MDT were 0 and >150 hours; for VG-GA … Show more

“…The ICPI of CBU2179, CBU2249, and CBU2374 was 0.14, 0.33, and 0.39, respectively. ICPI values for VG/GA and B1 from previous studies were 0.03 and 0.2, respectively (Allan et al, 1978, Orsi et al, 2009. Also, no statistical differences in the ciliostasis index were found among the groups, except for the negative control, from which the index was lowest.…”

“…The highest dilution in which all embryos die was calculated as mean lethal dose [ 7 ]. Viral virulence was categorized by three classifications: Embryo mortality <60 h (Velogenic), 60-90 h (Mesogenic), and > 90 h (Lentogenic) [ 3 ].…”

“…The incidence of ND that attacks poultry shows manifestations of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and neurological disorders that cause deaths of up to 100% depending on the viral pathotype [ 1 , 2 ]. ND virus is highly contagious and causes huge economic losses in the poultry industry due to the decrease in production and quality of eggs and chicken performance [ 3 ]. Virulent of NDV strains are endemic to poultry in most of Asia, Africa, and some northern and southern states of America.…”

“…The mortality rate of BP-caKII and K2 was measured by mean death time (MDT), and absolute lethal dose (ALD). MDT was measured as previously reported [ 16 , 17 , 18 ]. Briefly, BP-caKII and K2 were diluted within the range of 10 2 to 10 4 EID 50 /100 µL and 100 µL was injected into 10-day-old SPF embryonated eggs via the allantoic cavity.…”
