Crude glycerine in diets for piglets

Abstract: -Two experiments were carried out to determine the nutritional value and to evaluate performance of piglets fed two types of crude glycerine (CG), which were made from vegetable oil (CGS) and a mix of animal fat + % soybean oil (CGA). In experiment I, a digestibility assay was conducted using 32 crossbred piglets (19.20±1.52 kg). The experimental unit consisted of one pig, with a total of four experimental units per diet. The glycerine levels used in the digestibility assay were 4, 8, and 12% of the basal diet… Show more

“…This can be observed in the studies conducted by Carvalho et al (2012), who studied two kinds of crude glycerin (a vegetable source as well as a mixed source of animal and vegetable sources) and obtained 5247 and 5242 kcal kg -1 gross energy, 55.95 and 55.45% glycerol, respectively. Likewise, studied two types of semi-purified glycerin (vegetable and mixed sources) and found 3760 and 3217 kcal kg -1 gross energy and 74.94 and 68.66% glycerol, respectively.…”

“…In another study on the inclusion levels of two kinds of crude glycerin (vegetal and mixed sources) in pigs (15-30 kg), Carvalho et al (2012) observed no effect on pig performance. Similar results were obtained by , who evaluated the inclusion levels of semi-purified glycerin (vegetal and mixed sources) in pig diets during the growing and finishing phases, and observed that this co-product can be included at levels up to 16% without impairing the pigs performance.…”
