Show more

“…Animals have an average daily milk yield of 32.4±11.5 kg/day and fat and protein percentages of 3.40±0.73% and 3.13±0.35%, respectively. These results are similar to those found by Rajala-Schultz & Saville (2003) and Meyer et al (2006). The general means for age at calving and days in milk were 45.8±21.8 months and 205±141 days, respectively.…”

“…The linear correlation between MUN and milk yield was moderate and positive (r = 0.34; P<0.01), similarly to the results found by Joknker et al (1998) and Meyer et al (2006), confirming that higher-producing groups and herds can present higher MUN values. Therefore, the milk production covariable was included in the model, being an important source of variation (P<0.01) in milk urea.…”

“…Therefore, it should infer that milk production varies as a function of the variable lactose. These results differ from those reported by Meyer et al (2006), who affirmed the levels of lactose to be highly correlated to milk production.…”

“…Milk urea nitrogen was found at an average of 15.67 mg/dL for production of 13.9 kg milk/day, which is above the value found by Lucci et al (2006) of 14.15 mg/dL for the treatment that completely met the requirements of crude protein, but the production was 12.4 kg milk/day. The MUN value calculated by the equation suggested by Meyer et al (2006) is 11.0 mg/dL (MUN = 9.52 + 0.1054 × MP; r 2 = 0.65), well below the actual value found in this study, thus rendering the equation in this system unreliable. The SCC was used to monitor the occurrence of subclinical mastitis in the cows studied, which could influence milk production and composition.…”
