Show more

“…Results of this study show that women presented values of fundamental frequency (f 0 ) higher than those of men. These results are consistent with the literature (15,21) and can be justified by the fact that the vocal folds of women and men differ with respect to the size and number of cycles of vibration per second (22) . The natural vocal fold length and larynx size of females are smaller compared with those of males, thus the habitual values of f 0 are lower in men (23) .…”

“…Some mean values of f 0 described in the literature for young Brazilian women are 206Hz (21) , 215.42Hz (24) , and 208.28Hz (15) , whereas f 0 values of 120Hz (21) , 127.61Hz (24) , and 136.56Hz (15) are found for young Brazilian men. The f 0 values observed in this study for young women and men were 186.49Hz and 166.75Hz, respectively.…”
