Queixas auditivas de disc jockeys da cidade de Recife

Introduction High-level noise exposure in dentists' workplaces may cause damages to the auditory systems. High-frequency audiometry is an important tool in the investigation in the early diagnosis of hearing loss. Objectives To analyze the auditory thresholds at frequencies from 500 to 16,000 Hz of dentists in the city of Curitiba. Methods This historic cohort study retrospectively tested hearing thresholds from 500 to 16,000 Hz with a group of dentists from Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Eighty subjects participated in the study, separated into a dentist group and a control group, with the same age range and gender across groups but with no history of occupational exposure to high levels of sound pressure in the control group. Subjects were tested with conventional audiometry and high-frequency audiometry and answered a questionnaire about exposure to noise. Results Results showed that 81% of dentists did not receive any information regarding noise at university; 6 (15%) dentists had sensorineural hearing impairment; significant differences were observed between the groups only at frequencies of 500 Hz and 1,000, 6,000 and 8,000 Hz in the right ear. There was no significant difference between the groups after analysis of mean hearing thresholds of high frequencies with the average hearing thresholds in conventional frequencies; subjects who had been working as dentists for longer than 10 years had worse tonal hearing thresholds at high frequencies. Conclusions In this study, we observed that dentists are at risk for the development of sensorineural hearing loss especially after 10 years of service.

Introdução: Trabalhadores constantemente expostos a ruído, como os do ramo industrial, podem vir a apresentar efeitos auditivos e não auditivos, dentre os quais, o mais comumente relatado é a perda auditiva. Além deste, outros efeitos auditivos frequentes são: zumbido, plenitude auricular, intolerância a sons intensos, otalgia e dificuldade de compreensão de fala. Objetivo: Verificar os efeitos auditivos referidos pelos trabalhadores expostos ao ruído em uma indústria de embalagens da Região Metropolitana de João Pessoa/PB. Métodos: O estudo apresenta delineamento analítico, observacional e transversal. Foi realizada uma entrevista com os participantes utilizando o Protocolo de Impacto do Ruído na Saúde do Trabalhador de Santos, Andrade e Soares (2021) com 146 trabalhadores de ambos os gêneros, com idade entre 18 e 62 anos e que estavam expostos ao ruído na empresa de embalagens. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Hospital Universitário Lauro Wanderley. Resultados: Os efeitos auditivos mais relatados pelos trabalhadores foram dificuldade de compreensão de fala (65,1%) e intolerância a sons intensos (58,2%). Os trabalhadores do sexo masculino e com idade de até 25 anos referiram mais efeitos auditivos em relação ao sexo feminino e sujeitos com idade superior. Todos os trabalhadores referiram usar protetor auditivo, principalmente do tipo inserção. Conclusão: A prevalência dos efeitos auditivos foi alta na população estudada, especialmente a dificuldade de compreensão de fala e a intolerância a sons intensos. Apesar do notório cuidado da empresa em relação à saúde do trabalhador, se faz necessário um estudo mais aprofundado para possibilitar a adoção de estratégias que visem à minimização do impacto do ruído sobre o trabalhador.

Audiological profile of professional disc jockeys

Purpose: to describe the audiological profile of professional disc jockeys acting in cities of the Brazilian Federal District. Methods: audiometry, tympanometry, transient evoked emissions, and distortion product evoked emissions exams were conducted, as well as interviews, in order to identify auditory symptoms. Appropriate statistical tests were applied, adopting a significance level lower than 0.05. Results: a total of 21 disc jockeys, aged between 20 and 45 years, were evaluated. The most cited auditory complaints were feeling of ear fullness (86%) and tinnitus (57%). Auditory thresholds remained predominantly within normal range (90%), but thresholds were increased in frequencies from 3 KHz to 6 KHz (38%). Only 42% of the sample presented a pass response in transient evoked emissions, and 81% in distortion product evoked emissions, in both ears. Conclusion: the research identified auditory thresholds predominantly within standards of normality, though with increased high frequencies, that may be associated with noise exposure. The otoacoustic emissions presented alterations both in the transient ones and in the distortion product.
