Cellulose acetate propionate coated titanium: characterization and biotechnological application

Abstract: Surfaces of pure titanium and Ti coated with cellulose acetate propionate (CAP) have been characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy X ray coupled with elemental microanalysis (SEM-EDS), ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and contact angle measurements. Coating Ti surfaces with CAP ultrathin films reduced original surface roughness. Surface energy and wettability of CAP covered Ti surfaces pure Ti surfaces were similar. The adsorption of lysozyme (LYZ), an antibacterial protein, onto Ti an… Show more

“…In this case, physical blends of CMCAB and the drug are prepared in the solid state, ground and molded into tablets by compression. However, cellulose esters have been often applied as binders, additives, film formers or modifiers in automotive, wood, plastic and leather coatings applications (Edgar et al 2001) and as supports for adsorption of proteins (Kosaka et al 2005(Kosaka et al , 2007a and cell growth (Gomes et al 2007). All these applications require knowledge about polymer behavior in solution and thin film properties.…”

“…However, surface energy parameters seem to control the adhesion and growth of cells (Gomes et al, 2007;Harnett, Alderman, & Wood, 2007) or the adsorption of proteins (Kosaka, Kawano, El Seoud, & Petri, Fig. 4.…”

“…The high occupancy of d-orbitals lowers the energy of the d states, thus moving the energy levels away from the conduction band and contributing to the valence band maximum [14]. The catalytic efficiencies of the TiO 2 nanotubes are related to the S BET of the catalyst [15]./ As summarized in Tabl. 1, the S BET of TiO 2 nanotubes decreased with increasing calcination temperature.…”
