Abstract: In this work we analyzed the karyotype of five populations of Adenomera diptyx from Argentina after conventional staining, Ag-NOR and C-banding. All specimens presented 2n = 26 and FN = 34. The karyotype was formed by three submetacentric, one metacentric and nine telocentric pairs. Silver staining revealed that the NOR was located on a secondary constriction in pair 7. C- banding evidenced constitutive heterochromatin at the pericentromeric region of all chromosomes. The karyotype of A. diptyx was similar to … Show more

“…Currently, approximately 40 species of Leptodactylus , sensu Frost et al [3], have been karyotyped according to the revisions made by King [9], Kuramoto [10], Amaro-Ghilardi et al [11], and Green and Sessions [12], complemented with subsequent information from Campos et al [13] and Zaracho and Hernando [14]. The predominant diploid number is 2n = 22 and the karyotype constitution is considered conservative, including bi-armed metacentric, submetacentric, and subtelocentric chromosomes, which results in a fundamental number of chromosome arms of FN = 44.…”

“…Although several recent studies have revised problematic taxonomic groups in Anura (e.g. Pseudopaludicola; Duarte et al 2010, Fávero et al 2011, Pansonato et al 2012, there are still many in need of studies using integrative taxonomy, such as Adenomera and Scinax (Heyer 1984, Kwet 2007, Zaracho & Hernando 2011, Nunes et al 2012. Samplings in poorly known regions, such as that of the present study, contribute to taxonomic and systematic revisions with vouchers, vocalizations records, material for molecular analysis and species distribution data.…”

“…Approximately 40 species of Leptodactylus have been karyotyped (Zaracho and Hernando 2011), and most share very similar features, with the emphasis on metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes (Silva et al 2004, Amaro-Ghilardi et al 2006, Gazoni et al 2012. A number of cytogenetic studies have reinforced the conservative nature of the karyotypes of the representatives of this genus (Denaro 1972, Bianchi et al 1973, Bogart 1974, Silva et al 2000, Amaro-Ghilardi et al 2006, Arruda and Morielle-Versute 2008, Gazoni et al 2012.…”
