Editorial

Abstract

On March 1st, 2002, I assumed, with great pleasure, the position of Editor-in-Chief of Genetics and Molecular Biology, my nomination having been approved by the General Assembly of the Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) in October 2001. At present myself and the production team are still setting up the operational structure of the journal and selecting editors, a process during which we have the unrestricted support of the SBG Board and the collaboration of the wider genetics community. We have appointed six experienced Brazilian geneticists as Senior Editors who will act as advisers on technical matters and ombudsmen, while the Associate Editors will act as Area Editors thus decentralizing editorial decisions. A management program is being developed for the journal, which will allow the editorial processes to be carried out electronically and followed by the submitting authors. Our objective is to streamline the editorial process and reduce to the minimum the time between submission of a manuscript, its acceptance or rejection and its publication, while still guaranteeing the quality of the articles published in the journal. Our aim is to produce a high-quality journal ensuring that the articles published in Genetics and Molecular Biology will have the widest dissemination in the genetics community.
