This bibliographic study analyzes scientific texts published in the CEPEn database in the mental health field (1979-2007). A total of 280 abstracts were investigated, of which 208 were Master’s theses. The individuals investigated in these studies were professionals (57), patients (50), and professors and/or students (18). Among the themes addressed between 2000 and 2007 were the following: Nursing Care in Mental Health (40), Perception in Mental Health (37); and Transversality in Mental Health Care (27). This study provided an overview of the scientific research produced in the mental health field in Brazilian nursing graduate programs. We expect this study to elicit reflections concerning mental health care practice and enable new approaches for nursing promoting health and the prevention of diseases in order to enable patients to recover their citizenship, autonomy and quality of life.

This article aims to present the activities of Service of Psychotherapy of the Institute of Psychiatry of the Clinical Hospital of the FMUSP (IPQ) from a historiographical perspective, positioning it critically in the scenario of different modalities of care in mental health within the IPQ between 1962 and 1965. Psychotherapy Service involves care of patients in psychotherapy, teaching and knowledge transfer as well as research in the scientific domain. It has also played an important role within the various IPQ services and groups including the debates of the “psi field” throughout its fifty years of existence. We seek to identify how the 60s can be considered an important historical mark. The proximity between psychiatry and psychoanalysis enabled the development of the notion of psychodynamics, from which the founding work in group psychotherapy emerged. The IPQ represented an important professional training center in the city. Supported by the notions of complexity and pluralism that would mark the future of mental health, this article demonstrates the importance of Psychotherapy Service in the historical process of this field.

ResumoA expectativa de vida vem aumentando rapidamente nas últimas décadas, o que eleva a quantidade de idosos na população. Na faixa etária superior a 60 anos, o indivíduo está mais suscetível a apresentar doenças crônico-degenerativas, isto decorre das modificações fisiológicas intensas e determinantes neste período da vida. A depressão e outras patologias podem ser vistas como uma reação de ajuste ou maneira de enfrentar a morbidade, merecendo atenção à sua evolução e caracterização dentro do contexto hospitalar. Esta revisão bibliográfica objetiva estudar a associação da depressão com doenças clínicas mais incidentes na terceira idade, analisando as consequências desta relação, discutindo a prática assistencial da enfermagem neste contexto, além de destacar os aspectos biopsicossociais do envelhecimento. Percebe-se que a ocorrência da depressão no contexto médico é uma relação complexa que vem sendo estudada há anos, e que na maioria das vezes é negligenciada pelo profissional da saúde. Dessa maneira, a percepção e assistência de enfermagem são essenciais ao paciente com depressão, no sentido de garantir a restauração física e emocional destes pacientes. AbstractLife expectancy has been increasing rapidly in recent decades, bringing the number of elderly in the population. In the upper age to 60 years, the individual is more susceptible to present chronic degenerative diseases, this stems from the intense and crucial physiological changes during this period of life. Depression and other disorders can be seen as a reaction setting or way to address morbidity, deserving attention to developments and characterization within the hospital setting. This literature review aims to examine the association of depression with clinical diseases most prevalent in the elderly, analyzing the consequences of this relationship, discussing the healthcare practice of nursing in this context , and highlights the biopsychosocial aspects of aging . It is noticed that the occurrence of depression in the medical context is a complex relationship that has been studied for years , and that is most often neglected by health professionals . Thus , the perception and nursing care are essential to the patient with depression , to ensure the physical and emotional restoration of these patients .Descritores: Envelhecimento.
