Objective:To measure the pleasure and suffering indicators at work and relate them to the socio-demographic and employment characteristics of the nursing staff in a hemodialysis center in southern Brazil. Method: Quantitative research, with 46 workers. We used a self-completed form with demographic and labor data and the Pleasure and Suffering Indicators at Work Scale (PSIWS). We conducted a bivariate and correlation descriptive analysis with significance levels of 5% using the Epi-Info® and PredictiveAnalytics Software programs. Results: Freedom of Speech was considered critical; other factors were evaluated as satisfactory. The results revealed a possible association between sociodemographic characteristics and work, and pleasure and suffering indicators. There was a correlation between the factors evaluated. Conclusion: Despite the satisfactory evaluation, suffering is present in the studied context, expressed mainly by a lack of Freedom of Speech, with the need for interventions to prevent injury to the health of workers. Thus, work activity is a construction of meaning, the conquest of identity, continuity and historicizing of men (1) .In the same perspective, work activity can promote health with a pivotal role, or contribute to destabilization, leading the subject to imbalance, which reinforces the premise that work is never neutral with regards to workers' health (2) .This research is based on the theoretical framework of the psychodynamics of work, holding the dynamic relations between the labor organization and the employee's subjective processes as its object of study. In these relationships, suffering plays a key role that articulates health and pathology at the same time. Health implies dealing with impositions and pressures at work that cause psychological instability, while pathology is related to failures in the ways of coping with suffering (3) .Thus, on the one hand, suffering operates as a mobilizer of investments in the transformation of reality, and the possibility of transforming reality, and on the other it gives pleasure to the worker. Method: Quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research, using the document analysis technique. It was analyzed 39 accidents chips with four ICU nursing workers, between 2005 and 2010, in a university hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Results: The years of 2008 and 2009 had the highest accident records. As for sectors, the General Intensive Care Unit had the highest (46%) percentage. Among the professionals who crashed over, the nurses (49%) were highlighted and the needles were the material (69.2%) more involved in accidents. Conclusion: Mainly the implementation of strategies to reduce exposure for professional risks, especially measures to disposal and proper storage of sharp tools. Entre los profesionales que se estrelló otra vez, las enfermeras tenían más alto (49%) y la aguja destacaron fue el más material (69,2%) que participan en accidentes. Objetivos: describir y analizar la percepción de egresados de pegrado en enfermería acerca del proceso de formación y el mundo laboral en salud y enfermería. Materiales y método: investigación cualitativa, descriptiva y exploratoria, desarrollada en la Facultad de Enfermería de la Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). Treinta egresados participaron en la investigación. La recolección de datos se realizó por medio de entrevista semiestruturada. Se analizaron los datos con base en el análisis temático de contenido. Resultados: a partir del análisis, surgió la siguiente categoría empírica: dinamicidad y complejidad del mundo laboral y formación: la óptica del egresado de enfermería. Tal categoría arrojó dos subcategorías denominadas: características del mundo laboral contemporáneo y factores relacionados con la profesión de enfermería que interfieren en el trabajo del enfermero. Conclusiones: los participantes presentan un punto de vista crítico y una visión macroestructural acerca del mundo laboral contemporáneo aproximada a la discusión de sociólogos y estudiosos del trabajo. En cuanto a la profesión, los participantes resaltan el poco reconocimiento profesional y el desprestigio social de la enfermería, asimismo entienden que esta situación está asociada con cuestiones histórica, cultural, religiosa, económica y política.
