objectIve. To identify factors associated with unprotected sexual activity in females under the age of 15 years. Methods. Cross-sectional observational study of sexually active adolescents under the age of 15 seen at a public outpatient gynecology clinic. Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews (personal information and data on sexuality), clinical examination, and laboratory tests for diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections. Data were analyzed by frequency testing, association of variables (with p <0.05) and multiple correspondence analysis. results. One hundred sexually active adolescents between the ages of 11 and 14 were interviewed and examined. Of these, 71% declared themselves black; one-third were behind in school; 80% began sexual activity before the age of 13; 58% reported having been victims of violence within the family environment, and 13% had suffered sexual abuse; 77% did not use condoms regularly; and 22% had STIs. Unprotected sexual activity was more frequent with first sexual intercourse before the age of 13, commercial sexual exploitation, multiple sexual partners, intrafamily violence and school delay, as well as black race, unexpected pregnancy, and STIs. conclusIon. The multiple types of violence suffered by teenagers, including structural, intrafamily, and sexual violence, increase their vulnerability to early, unprotected sexual activity and to STIs and unexpected pregnancy. The synergistic effects of poverty, low educational achievement, and low selfesteem reduces the odds that adolescents will build the tools required for self-protection and exposes them to further victimization outside the family environment.

Resumo A violência, em suas diversas formas e manifestações, não pode ser vista pelos profissionais de saúde como questão alheia a seu trabalho. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a responsabilidade desses profissionais na notificação dos casos de violência. A busca foi realizada na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, considerando o período entre 2008 e 2013. Da análise surgiram três eixos temáticos: “legislação brasileira”; “responsabilidade dos profissionais de saúde no processo de notificação” e “códigos de ética dos profissionais de saúde”. Conclui-se que a maioria dos artigos relativos aos códigos de ética aponta a necessidade de denunciar os casos de violência aos respectivos conselhos, autoridades e órgãos competentes. Porém, nota-se que não explicitam a obrigatoriedade da notificação em casos de violência. Assim, torna-se necessário revisar cada um dos códigos deontológicos da área da saúde, considerando a importância de referirem-se especificamente à violência.

Artículo recibido el 28 de octubre, 2014. Aceptado en versión corregida el 28 de Enero, 2014 RESUMEN El siguiente artículo es una revisión de la literatura acerca del fenómeno del maltrato infantil. Su objetivo fue revisar la literatura existente que tiene relación con la historicidad, creencias paternales y profesionales, identifi cación, causas y consecuencias del maltrato contra el niño y la niña. Método: se realizó una búsqueda en cinco bases de datos (PubMed, LILACS, Google Scholar, SciELO y SCOPUS). Se utilizaron las palabras clave "Domestic Violence" AND "Child, Preschool" AND "Infant" AND "Primary Health Care". Los criterios de inclusión de los artículos, fueron aquellos publicados en revistas con comité editorial, se consideró el artículo a texto completo, idioma español, inglés y portugués. Resultados: El maltrato infantil se encuentra anclado en un contexto histórico, social y cultural. Es un fenómeno multifactorial en donde la infl uencia de modelos de crianza validados y de legitimación de la violencia son factores desencadenantes relevantes. La violencia produce efectos severos y profundos en la vida de los niños, niñas, que afecta seriamente su desarrollo y crecimiento, por los que los profesionales de salud están en una posición primordial para su identifi cación, pero refi eren un défi cit en su formación en el tema. Conclusión: Es importante la realización de investigaciones que permitan analizar en mayor profundidad la infl uencia de la historicidad y la cultura en la ejecución de acciones violentas hacia los niños, puesto que las prácticas se suceden de generación en generación, junto con la comprensión de las creencias y percepciones tanto de las personas como de los profesionales de salud respecto a lo que consideran maltrato. Aim was to review the literature which is related to the historicity, parental and professional beliefs, identifi cation, causes and consequences of abuse against children.
