Abstract: Determining the profile of antigen expression among meningococci is important for epidemiologic surveillance and vaccine development. To this end, two new mouse monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) have been derived against Neisseria meningitidis proteins (class 5). The MAbs were reactive against outer membrane antigens and were bactericidal. Selected anti-class 5 MAbs [(5.1)-3E6-2; (5.3)-3BH4-C7; (5.4)-1BG11-C7; (5.5)-3DH-F5G9 also 5F1F4-T3(5.c)], and the two new monoclonal antibodies C14F10Br2 (5.8) and 7F11B5Br3 (5… Show more

“…Interestingly, this antigen was also recognized in the N. meningitidis lysates, and this protein was identified as the "Opa protein." 30 These Opa proteins are responsible for the induction of protective antibodies with bactericidal activity. In this study, an 11 kDa antigen was also recognized in the N. lactamica lysates (NspA).…”

“…In addition, immunoblot analysis identified cross reactivity with a protein of approximate 25 kDa in N. meningitidis lysate, which is consistent with the Opa protein. 30 Immunization with OMV-DDA-BF was also better able to generate cellular immunity than OMV-alum or OMV alone, because the DTH response to antigen challenge, a good parameter of cellular immunity, was more pronounced in these animals. The immunization with OMV-DDA-BF also led to the production of the highest levels of the IgG2b antibody class.…”

“…These two strains were isolated from the same geographical area. Strains belonging to the most common serosubtype (B:4:P1.15) found in Brazil (De Gasperi and Zollinger 2001), clustered at low similarity levels among strains of the same serosubtype. Only two B:4:P1.15 strains isolated in the same month, year and geographical area, clustered at ca 85% of similarity (strains P54 from ET‐5 and P55 from ET‐6).…”

“…1). Serogroup B has been the prominent serogroup to date (Reeves et al 1995;Noronha et al 1997;Caugant 1998;Vogel et al 2000;De Gasperi and Zollinger 2001;Sacchi et al 2001;Barroso et al 2002;SVS/MS, 2004).…”

“…A identificação descritiva de uma cepa do meningococo se faz pela sequência Sorogrupo: Sorotipo: Subtipo, designada fórmula antigênica (FRASCH; ZOLLINGER; POOLMAN, 1985). Por exemplo, a denominação B:4:P1.9 de N. meningitidis indica que esta bactéria pertence ao sorogrupo B, sorotipo 4 e subtipo P1.9 (DE GASPARI;ZOLLINGER, 2001).…”
