| Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a hereditary condition in which lung disease affects all patients. In addition to pulmonary involvement, the multisystemic components of CF cause significant physical limitations. However, the impact of lung function on balance control in CF has not been studied. Objective: To assess body balance in adults with CF and to test its possible associations with lung function, nutritional status, and functional capacity. Method: This was a cross-sectional study in which 14 adults with CF underwent pulmonary function testing (spirometry, body plethysmography, and carbon monoxide diffusing capacity (DLco), respiratory muscle strength, 6-min walking distance (6MWD), Berg balance scale (BBS), nutritional analysis (body mass index and bioelectrical impedance), and stabilometry. Body balance was quantified using stabilometry; all participants performed the following two trials: opened base, eyes open (OBEO); closed base, eyes closed (CBEC). Results: In stabilometry, the median for the lateral range and anterior-posterior range in the CBEC trial was 0.10 (0.08-0.11) and 0.13 (0.11-0.22), respectively (p<0.05). The maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) correlated inversely with the lateral standard deviation (ρ=-0.61; p<0.05) as the DLco correlated positively with the anterior-posterior range (ρ=0.54; p<0.05). There were significant relationships between body composition indexes and almost all stabilometric variables measured. There were no relationships of the BBS and 6MWD with the stabilometric variables. Conclusions: In adults with CF, imbalance occurs mainly in the anterior-posterior direction and is especially associated with body composition.Keywords: cystic fibrosis; rehabilitation; respiratory function tests; postural balance; psychomotor performance; nutrition assessment. RESUMOO objetivo do estudo foi analisar a correlação entre instrumentos utilizados à avaliação do equilíbrio corporal e a predição do risco de quedas de idosos ativos. Estudo transversal, observacional, realizado com 41 mulheres (69,24±5,24 anos) praticantes de exercícios físicos, em Petrolina-PE. Os instrumentos utilizados foram a Escala de Equilíbrio de Berg (EEB), o Índice de Marcha Dinâmica (DGI), o "Timed Up and Go" simples (TUG), o "Timed Up and Go" motor (TUGm), o "Timed Up and Go" cognitivo (TUGc) e o Teste de Equilíbrio Corporal (TEC). Foi observada correlação significativa entre TEC-DGI (r=0,469; p=0,032), EEB-DGI (r= 0,513; p=0,021), correlação significativa negativa entre DGI-TUG (r= -0,454; p˂0,017), DGI-TUGm (r= -0,516; p˂0,006), DGI-TUGc (r= -0,547; p˂0,003), MEEM-TUG (r= -,470; p=0,055), MEEM-TUGm (r= -,470; p=0,057) e correlação significativa e moderada entre TUG-TUGm (r=0,701; p=0,000), TUG-TUGc (r=0,713; <0,000) e TUGm-TUGc (r=0,761; <0,000). Conclui-se que os instrumentos são complementares. Recomenda-se sua aplicação conjunta à avaliação do equilíbrio corporal e à predição do risco de quedas em idosos ativos. The instruments used were the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), the "Timed Up and Go" simple (TUG), the "Timed Up and Go" motor (TUGm), the "Timed up and Go "cognitive (TUGc) and Body Balance Test (CET). Desempenho da marcha de idosos praticantes de psicomotricidade

RESUMOEstudo quase experimental realizado com quinze idosos, desenvolvido na Clínica Escola de Fisioterapia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, em 2011. Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho da marcha de idosos praticantes de atividades psicomotoras. Foi realizada uma entrevista estruturada centrada em dados sociais, clínicos e funcionais, com o intuito de poder correlacionar diversas informações que sustentassem o objetivo do estudo. A média no desempenho cognitivo foi de 19,4, na primeira avaliação e de 23,2, na segunda. A média no desempenho de atividades relacionadas à marcha foi de 11,6, na primeira avaliação, e de 15,5, na segunda, logo após a prática de atividades psicomotoras. Constatou-se uma melhora signifi cativa no desempenho das atividades relacionadas à marcha, com irregularidades que persistiram na altura e na continuidade do passo, bem como no desvio da linha média. The study aimed to evaluate the performance of gait in elderly practitioners of psychomotor activities. It was conducted a structured interview focusing on social, clinical and functional data, in order to be able to correlate various information which supported the aim of the study. The average cognitive performance was 19.4 at the fi rst assessment and 23.2 in the second. The average performance of activities related to the gait was 11.6 at the fi rst assessment, and 15.5 in the second, after the practice of psychomotor activities. It was found a signifi cant improvement in the performance of activities related to the gait, with irregularities persisting in height and continuity of the step, as well as in the midline deviation.
