Show more

“…A previous study using live review and distinct instruments also found improvements in autobiographical memory recall (Subramaniam, Woods, & Whitaker, 2014). Our sample presented a high level of general answer (10.49±2.441) and low specific answer recall (3.244±2.245) at baseline, congruent with the idea that cognitive impairment origins overgeneralization of the autobiographical memory (Lemos et al, 2012;Martinelli et al, 2013). The reminiscence intervention group significantly increased specific answer and decreased general response to autobiographical memory recall after reminiscence.…”

“…Studies about autobiographical memory in cognitive impairment are consensual on the fact that the progression of dementia involves decline in autobiographical memory (Addis & Tippett, 2004;El Haj, Postal, Le Gall, & Allain, 2011;Irish et al, 2011;Martinelli, Anssens, Sperduti, & Piolino, 2013;Muller et al, 2012;Philippi et al, 2012) and that these changes can be observed from early stages (Lalanne, Gallarda, & Piolino, 2014;Lemos, Hazin, & Falcão, 2012), resulting in a loss of personal identity (Lalanne et al, 2014). Some particularities are nevertheless to be highlighted in this process.…”

“…This phenomenon is called positive temporal gradient and refers to a central characteristic of this pathology: the presence of retrograde amnesia. Another particularity observed in dementia persons was the presence of overgeneralization of the autobiographical memory (Fromholt et al, 2003;Irish et al, 2011;Lemos, Hazin & Falcão, 2012;Martinelli et al, 2013;Moses, Culpin, Lowe & McWilliam, 2004) a phenomenon also observed in populations with depression and suicide attempt (e.g. Fromholt et al, 2003;Williams et al, 2007).…”
