Abstract: Com base nos estudos da ciência da sua época, Merleau-Ponty interroga a respeito das análises sobre o sistema nervoso e os postulados clássicos sobre a condução do impulso elétrico, sobre o circuito reflexo, envolvendo estimulação e reação, sobre o campo perceptivo e sobre a questão da localização cerebral, sendo insuficiente a correspondência pontual, própria da tradição atomista, entre o excitante, o mapa cerebral e a reação.
