Eritema Ab Igne em adolescente induzido por computador laptop

Abstract: Abstract:Erythema ab igne is a pigmented reticular skin lesion with telangiectasias caused by prolonged exposure to heat. This report describes the case of a 12-year-old adolescent girl with erythema ab igne induced by a laptop computer. The paper also discusses how computers generate heat and how important it is for the manufacturers of these devices to warn consumers of the potential hazards that could occur if the equipment is misused. “…Later pigmentation develops [Figure 7], and telangiectasia and atrophy may also ensue. [96] It may occur at any age and affect either sex[97] in whom there is a history of repeatedly or habitually being exposed to heat, as in heating pads, fireplace, laptops,[98] or occupationally as in cooks, goldsmiths, and silversmiths. Histopathology is reminiscent of chronic actinic damage.…”

“…Around a dozen of cases were reported until now. The localization on the thighs and asymmetry are assumed to be characteristic [2,[6][7][8][9]. Eai occurs on the frequently exposed sites to topical hydro-and thermotherapies like repeated hot water baths or frequent application of hot water containers to treat chronic pain, e.g.…”

“…1 Although few epidemiologic data are available regarding the modern-day incidence of EAI in North America, a number of modern case reports describe EAI with the use of hot water bottles, electric blankets, and laptop computers. 2 With the rise in personal computer use, ''laptop legs'' has come to be a colloquial term for EAI of the anterior thighs. The pathogenesis of EAI involves repeated heat exposures insufficient to cause a burn but that result in transient increases in skin temperatures to 43 to 47uC (109.…”
