The aim of this study was to construct and validate an Attitude Scale relating to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) old age (EAFV-LGBT). The first study, consisting of 29 items in its preliminary version, counted on 266 individuals from the public in general with an average age of 28.6 years (DP = 9.70), exploratory factor analysis was undertaken and EAFV-LGBT consisted of twelve items, with eigenvalues of 5.08, accounting for 43.8% of total variance. The second study consisted of 261 individuals from the general public with an average age of 23.18 years (DP = 8.25), confirmatory factor analysis was undertaken and psychometric parameters by means of Item Response Theory and conformation of the EAFV-LGBT structure. After this analysis, two items were excluded due to lower psychometric values, in which the 10 item scale proved to be valid and precise in evaluating individuals with varying levels of the latent trait. An adequate fit of the model to the data was verified, CFI = 0.97; TLI = 0.6; RMSEA, 90% CI = 0.05 [0.01, 0.07]. Lastly, the EAFV-LGBT has valid psychometric properties to evaluate attitudes towards LGBT old age.

In current times, issues about sexual minorities are increasingly debated. Nonetheless, research about aging homosexuals is scarce, which reveals how neglected this subject is and how pressing it is to address it. Prejudice in contemporary society is felt by elderly homosexuals, who are aware that they are being discriminated against, something that has violent consequences and induces fear and anxiety about being outspoken about their sexual orientation. Thus, elderly homosexuals have a difficult time feeling free and fulfilled, which is damaging to their aging process. This paper intends to present a training proposal aimed at professional care providers of elderly homosexuals in institutions. It is urgent to conceive social responses that follow a multidisciplinary approach and that institutions would adopt with regard to their homosexual population.Key-words: Aging; Homosexuality; Caregivers; Institutional responses RESUMO Na atualidade, as questões sobre as minorias sexuais são cada vez mais discutidas. No entanto, há um grande défice na investigação acerca do envelhecimento da população homossexual, o que revela a negligiência com que o tema está a ser tratado e a urgência em ser abordado. A existência de preconceitos da sociedade contemporânea leva a que o idoso homossexual sinta a discriminação com que é tratado, reflectindo-se de uma forma violenta num sentimento de medo e angús-tia em manifestar a sua orientação sexual. O idoso homossexual vê-se desta forma impedido de ser livre, plena e integralmente, o que prejudica o seu processo de envelhecimento. O presente artigo pretende dar a conhecer uma proposta de formação ao nível de cuidadores formais de idosos homossexuais institucionalizados. Urge pensar de forma transdiciplinar nas respostas sociais que as instituições devem adoptar face à sua população homossexual.Palavras-chave: envelhecimento, homossexualidade, cuidadores, respostas institucionais

ResumoEsse artigo traz algumas reflexões sobre travestilidade e envelhecimento, baseadas na pesquisa Travestilidade e Envelhecimento. O tema do envelhecimento da população travesti e transsexual é pouco investigado nas pesquisas brasileiras, e há aqui uma grande gama de aspectos que necessitam de visibilidade e debate. Considerando o contexto transfóbico em que se encontram, destaca-se aqui aspectos levantados na pesquisa relacionados à saúde da população travesti e das mulheres trans em relação às mudanças corporais; as imigrações das travestis e mulheres transsexuais; e a história contada por elas. Nesse sentido, é ressaltada a importância em dar voz às travestis e populações transgêneras, num contexto o qual aspectos relacionados aos efeitos da transfobia são continuamente ignorados e ofuscados, o que coloca em xeque por um lado a garantia dos direitos humanos das populações transsexuais e travestis e por outro, revela como esses grupos configuram na história.
