Riscos. ABSTRACTThe interpretative approach helps us to understand symbolic structures that classify materialities and subjectivities in pure or impure, good or bad, from the joining of experiences and beliefs. Rituals of purity and impurity exteriorize the inner life and seek a little unity to the experience of life. Based on this context, the article discusses perceptions of food dangers through the organization of focus groups with 86 participants, selected for being responsible for feeding their families and domestic supply. The results of the research indicated classificatory schemes present in the collective memory and in the practices of the families, grounding emotions and impelling the actions related to eating, which involve sensations of danger and mistrust in constant daily negotiations. Eating reveals the sum of practices and representations that result in ethical, social, and environmental values, modeling dietary concerns and practices.
