Genetic diversity of table grape based on morphoagronomic traits

Abstract: The conservation and characterization of grape (Vitis spp) genetic resources in germplasm banks have been the basis of its use in breeding programs that result in development of new cultivars. There are at least 10,000 grape cultivars kept in germplasm collection. The genetic diversity in 136 table grape accessions from the state of Bahia, Brazil, was evaluated. Continuous and discrete morphoagronomic traits were assessed. The clustering analysis by the Tocher otimization method resulted in 30 clusters (consid… Show more

“…1). As previously reported in different intergenotypic works (Leão et al 2010(Leão et al , 2011Khadivi-Khub et al 2014;Tello et al 2015), the highest absolute correlations were obtained between traits of the same category (i.e. leaf, cluster and berry traits, Table 1).…”

“…The accessions are part of the Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Semiárido, located in Juazeiro, state of Bahia, Brazil (9 o 24'S, 40 o 26'W, and 365.5m of altitude) and they are selected based on their importance for grape breeding and on previous studies (LEÃO et al, 2010;2011).…”

“…At EMBRAPA Semiárido, grapevine breeding studies are in an initial phase, and, in most recent decades, research efforts have been concentrated on morphoagronomic enrichment and characterization of the genotypes of the Germplasm Bank (BORGES et al 2008;LEÃO et al, 2010;LEÃO et al, 2011). This collection has begun in 1965 with cultivars collected in the Northeast region and later expanded with others imported from FAO in Italy; Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, in São Paulo; and Embrapa Uva e Vinho, in Rio Grande do Sul.…”

“…These techniques have been widely used in specific agronomic areas such as sensory analyses (Pagés, 2004) and studies related to genetic variability or improvement (Chen et al, 2009;Leão et al, 2011).…”
