Abstract: Eucalyptus plantation in Brazil is generally set on low fertility soils, therefore phosphorus (P) fertilization is mandatory and increases the cost of plantation operation. Using species that more efficiently uptake phosphorus from less soluble sources is an interesting option. However, little is known about eucalyptus regarding its ability of using less soluble forms of phosphorus. The use of P by eucalyptus (E. urophylla, E. grandis, and E. urophylla × E. grandis) was studied in greenhouse using a loamy-text… Show more

“…However, there were no differences in dry matter yield and P uptake between the control and 100% PR treatment, confirming the low agronomic effectiveness of the PR when applied alone .The low effectiveness of this P source in terms of dry matter yield and P uptake by plants was also observed in other studies with wheat, ryegrass and eucalyptus (Prochnow et al, 2004;Villanueva et al, 2006). The values of relative agronomic effectiveness calculated based both on above ground part dry matter yield and total P uptake in the corn plants from P sources, showed the higher effectiveness of TSP fertilizer, while the PR was the least effective, as expected (Tables 1 and 2).…”

“…As an alternative to the use of superphosphates, phosphate rocks or an association of both sources can be used to manage P fertilization with sources presenting distinct solubility traits (Chien et al, 2009). The joint utilization of these sources can be either accomplished by applying combinations of phosphate rock and soluble sources (Chien et al, 1987;Franzini et al, 2009aFranzini et al, , 2009bNachtigall et al, 1989;Menon et al, 1991;Prochnow et al, 2004b;Villanueva et al, 2006) or by applying them separately but in the same area (associated use).…”
