Comportamento de bovinos de corte em pista de remate

Abstract: RESUMO ABSTRACT This wok was aimed at characterizing the behavior of beef cattle at an auction ring. 1572 animals were computed. Of this total, 1317 animals were crossbred Bos taurus taurus x Bos taurus taurus and 255 were pure European breed Bos taurus taurus. The animals were evaluated at the auction track during the IV Calves and Heifers market, held at Pinheiro Machado, RS. Temperament was evaluated according to the attribution behavior scores of the animals reaction when they entered (EEP) and moved (EMP)… Show more

“…Bianchini et al (26) studied young noncastrated zebu, continental, and crossbred steers and found appropriate declines in pH and temperature, without variations between genetic groups, but found variations in temperature and pH in the different muscles. Within the females, however, animals characterized as zebu showed higher pH values than the taurine ones (P<0.05), indicating higher susceptibility to stress of animals with this genetic inheritance (11) .…”

“…Stressful situations intensify according to sex (9) , species, breed, and bloodline (10,11) ; category and age (12) ; body size, anatomical conditions and fatness (13,14) ; and transport and finishing system (15,5) . Thus, reducing the animal stress is a measure of great importance because, in addition to losses in meat quality, stressed animals are more prone to physical injuries, with consequent economic losses.…”

“…It shows that sex did not influence the movement of the animals. Silveira et al (2006) found different results when assessing cattle's behavior on auction tracks. Females had higher Entrance and Movement scores.…”

“…Grandin (2000) and Lanier (2000) associate the increased movement of the animals to the aversive stimuli they were subject to. Silveira et al (2006) showed that zebu cattle moved more intensely in the auction ring than cattle of European origin. Table 10 presents the data on the entrance in the auction ring according to sex.…”

“…JONES & GOSLING (2005) chamaram a atenção para a falta de padronização nos termos utilizados para descrever o temperamento em cães. Nas espécies de produção, principalmente bovinos, há também falta de padronização e definição dos escores utilizados (KILGOUR et al, 2006;SILVEIRA et al, 2006). Um bom teste de temperamento será relevante seguro e discriminatório.…”
