Show more

“…Infestation by A. cajennense can be controlled by keeping the pastures uniform and in a clean condition through mowing the entire horse pasture area (and removing the mowed grass) at least once a year, during the spring-summer months (LABRUNA et al, 2001). Successful strategic chemical control has also been achieved (LABRUNA et al 2004). …”

“…Its description has been frequently associated to the presence of it's host dog (1,19,10,21), being adapted to pets in urban centers. R. sanguineus is a vector of several relevant pathogens for dogs, including agents of babesiosis, haemobartonelosis, hepatozoonosis and ehrlichiosis, some of them potentially transmissible to man.…”

“…However, it is noteworthy that some horses that were treated only with pyrethroids were also infested with A. cajennense at different intensity levels. The tick infestation in the present study, even when chemical acaricide products were used, may be related to the absence of a strategic control program for A. cajennense, as recommended by Labruna et al (2004) and Cunha et al (2007). Likewise, other factors may be interfering with the efficiency of tick control, such as the concentration of acaricide emulsion and application method.…”

“…In Brazil, it is distributed throughout the national territory (LABRUNA et al, 2004;ESTRADA-PEÑA et al, 2004), although it is found mostly in the southeast (VIEIRA et al, 2002). This ectoparasite causes economic losses among livestock due to reduction of the animals' productivity (OLIVEIRA, 2004;CUNHA et al, 2007) and the high cost of using acaricides (PRATA et al, 1996).…”
