To identify the prevalence of maxillofacial injuries resulting from interpersonal violence in Brazilian children and adolescents. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted at a Center of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Dentistry with a sample of 335 medical reports of victims aged up to 19 years. Variables involved sex and age group, perpetrator, occurrence of the event, characterization of injuries, presence of maxillofacial injuries, type of tissue involvement, and injuries in the oral cavity. Data were analyzed using descriptive, and the Chi-square was used for categorical data. Results: Most victims were female (60.3%) and aged 15-19 years (57.6%). Aggressions occurred at home (50.6%), in the evening (39.5%) and involved perpetrators known to the victim (91.5%). Most victims had multiple injuries (75.8%), involving up to three regions of the body (93.4%). Injuries with blunt objects were the most frequent (86.2%). The prevalence of maxillofacial injuries was 36.7%, with low involvement of the oral cavity (8.4%). A significant association between the presence of injuries on the face and variables "perpetrator" (p=0.015) and "number of injuries" (p=0.006) was observed. Conclusion: Female adolescents were the main victims of physical violence, with repercussions in different regions of the body. The prevalence of maxillofacial injuries was high, although with little involvement of oral cavity structures.

Objective: to describe the characteristics of external causes in children and adolescents seen in a hospital emergency. Method: a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study, in which 3,154 medical records were analyzed regarding hospitalizations due to external causes involving children and adolescents in a general hospital, according to sociodemographic characteristics, types of external causes and care provided by the health unit. The data were provided by the Hospital Epidemiology Center and analyzed through the Epi Info Program, version 7.0. Results: hospitalizations due to external causes, involving children and adolescents, corresponded to 30.1% of the occurrences, mainly due to falls (48.8%) and other causes (21.4%). (62.9%), aged between 15 and 18 years (26.8%). Conclusion: the main causes of emergency hospitalizations were falls, followed by contact with animals, transport accidents and aggressions. RESUMO: Objetivou-se analisar a percepção de adolescentes acerca de suas atividades de vida, trabalho e lazer. Trata-se de pesquisa-ação desenvolvida em uma escola localizada na periferia de Fortaleza, Ceará, em 2011. Foram selecionados 25 adolescentes que responderam a um questionário, em entrevista, e participaram de uma oficina educativa, ambos abordando suas atividades cotidianas. Os resultados evidenciaram que os participantes convivem com a realidade do trabalho infantil, sem amparo legal e em situação de exploração. A busca pelo trabalho é motivada pela necessidade financeira de se manter e de auxiliar a família. As atividades de lazer concentram-se em festas noturnas e práticas esportivas de risco. Após a intervenção, os participantes reconheceram a importância do investimento profissional seguro e de atividades de lazer que não os exponham a riscos. Conclui-se que o uso do Modelo de Atividade de Vida permite a discussão e a reflexão dos adolescentes sobre trabalho, lazer e estudo. ABSTRACT: This action research study, to examine adolescents' perceptions of their living, working and playing activities, was carried out at a school on the periphery of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. The 25 adolescents selected answered an interview questionnaire and participated in an educational workshop, both addressing their everyday activities. The results showed that child labor, without legal support and in situations of exploitation, is a reality in the participants' lives. Work is sought to meet the financial needs of supporting themselves and helping the family. Leisure activities consist primarily of night parties and extreme sports. After the intervention, the participants recognized the importance of safe professional investment and leisure activities that do not expose them to risk. It was concluded that the use of Models of Activities of Living enables teenagers to think and talk about work, leisure and study.
