Abstract: A retrospective cohort study was carried out aiming to assess the success rate of endodontic treatment of patients from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Pernambuco, Brazil. The dental records of the sampling comprised all patients treated in 1998 and 1999. Trials were standardized and a pilot study was carried out to determine the feasibility of the proposed study. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used to calculate the level of significance that was set at 5%. Logistic regression models were use… Show more

“…One of the most important and decisive parameters for the success of the endodontic treatment is whether a periapical lesion is present prior to treatment (10)(11)(12)(13)(14)(15). Other determining factors include the extent of the root filling in relation to the root apex (11,13,14,16), pulp status before treatment (13,14,17), post-endodontic coronal restoration (9,15,18,19) and proximal contacts (8). Moreover, in a recent systematic review from Ng et al (8), it was concluded that molars show significantly lower survival rates than other teeth; this hypothesis has been supported by previous cohort studies (20,21).…”

“…The primary endodontic treatment exclusion group enclosed three papers, the reasons of the exclusion were the short period of the observation time [9] and the literature review design [4, 10]. …”
