“…Mont'Alverne et al ( 12 ) found that more than half of respondents used the T-tube (TT) in public (56%) and private (58%) hospitals. According to the study of Gonçalves et al, ( 11 ) TT or PS (38%) were the most used modes. In all of these studies, much variability was observed in the pressure levels, independent of the modality used: CPAP, PS or a combination of the two.…”

“…Furthermore, Bucharles et al ( 12 ) reported that 89.5% of respondents from private hospitals used the MIP and that 100% recorded this measurement using a pressure gauge. MIP was not often used in hospitals in the Federal District ( 11 ) and São Paulo ( 10 ) (Brazil).…”

“…To calculate the RSBI, the method with the patient breathing without the aid of ventilatory support was the most common in Fortaleza 17 . Moreover, the use of the ventilatory support to obtain RSBI was common in hospitals in Distrito Federal 18 and São Paulo 19 . Even in the nation's capital district, Distrito Federal, only five ICUs had a spirometer.…”

“…In Fortaleza, the RSBI measurements are performed with the patient breathing spontaneously through the T-tube 17 . In Distrito Federal, 95% of hospitals obtain the parameters from the display of the ventilators, and only 5% through a spirometer 18 . Finally, in São Paulo, 91% of physical therapists use the pressure support ventilation (PSV) mode between 6 and 12 cmH 2 O to perform the measurement of RSBI during the evaluation for MV removal 19 .…”

“…Extubação é definida pela retirada da via aérea artificial, considera-se sucesso na extubação quando o paciente permanece pelo menos 48 horas sem a necessidade de ser reintubado. Por sua vez, a reintubação é definida como precoce quando o paciente não suporta ficar sem a ventilação mecânica antes de completar 48 horas (GONÇALVES et al, 2007). A incidência de PAV aumenta com a reitubação, pois nesse processo há elevação do risco de aspiração da secreção da orofaringe (ANVISA, 2017).…”
