Introduction: Flexibility is an essential component of physical aptitude that reduces the incidence of muscle distention and improves movement efficiency and posture. Objective: To analyze posterior chain flexibility and lower back pain (LBP) in farm workers from a city in western Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Methods: Quantitative and cross-sectional study conducted with 185 rural workers, average age of 44.24 (±10.83) years. The Rural Worker Health Questionnaire, containing individual issues related to work; sit and reach box, goniometer, visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry and Roland-Morris questionnaires were used to evaluate posterior chain flexibility, hamstring muscle length, pain and lumbar spine dysfunction, respectively. Flexibility was compared with the degree of dysfunction using one-way ANOVA followed by the Bonferroni post hoc test. Results: 181 (97.8%) workers reported LBP symptoms: 100% of the women and 95.2% of the men. The average Oswestry score was 7.09 (±8.25), Roland-Morris 1.22 (±1.63), and VAS 5.81 (±2.5). Average flexibility by the sit and reach test (SRT) was 23.91cm (±18.81); straight leg raise (SLR), 66° (±11.77) and popliteal angle 123.21° (±12.45). There was a significant difference in the popliteal angle (p = 0.003) and SLR (0.001) when compared with the degree of dysfunction. Introduction: Low back pain has varied etiology and complex discussed and can be triggered by various factors. Objective: Was to assess the prevalence of low back pain in individuals 60 years or more of the areas of the Family Health Strategy "Vila Sao Paulo" in the city of Bauru, São Paulo, and its association with demographic and socioeconomic variables, relating to work, lifestyle and morbidity. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with 363 elderly sampled by the technique of two-stage cluster, which were interviewed at home using a multidimensional instrument (demographic, socio-economic, featuring work; lifestyle; morbidity) and the Nordic questionnaire. Conducted descriptive analysis, bivariate and Poisson regression. Results: It was noted more frequently in the elderly age group between 60 and 69 years old, married, with low education and income from two to five. The prevalence of low back pain was 55.8% of elderly patients studied, 52.2% in men and 47.8% women and, the variables load and carry weight (p = 0.001) and the number of diseases referred to (p = 0.04) showed association with the presence of low back pain.

<p>O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a força dinamométrica lombar de mineiros que atuam no subsolo de mina de carvão, correlacionando com Dor, Força e Funcionalidade. O estudo realizado foi uma pesquisa transversal quantitativa de levantamento de campo em uma mina de carvão. A amostra foi composta por 40 mineiros. Foi realizada uma avaliação física funcional com o questionário Owestry Low Back Pain para avaliar a funcionalidade e um dinamômetro lombar japonês da marca Takei<sup>®</sup>. Os resultados obtidos foram de 77,5% com fraqueza lombar, pouca alteração na funcionalidade com 97,5% dos mineiros apresentando grau de incapacidade mínima. Pode-se concluir que os mineiros do subsolo de carvão apresentaram fraqueza lombar, independente da presença ou não de lombalgia mecânica. Esta fraqueza não mostrou correlação estatística com queda da funcionalidade e presença e intensidade de dor. Os achados apontam para a necessidade de acompanhamento destas populações trabalhadoras visando a manutenção plena de suas condições funcionais e livres de afecções musculoesqueléticas da coluna lombar, que podem iniciar-se por sinais como redução da força.</p>
