The increasing proportion of older persons is creating problems in many countries. In developing countries, the majority of the older persons live in rural areas without adequate modern facilities, and their quality of life is influenced by various factors. It is important to investigate their quality of life and identify and measure the potential factors. Such investigation will aid the development of policies and practices to improve their quality of life. The aim of this study was to describe quality of life and identify the influencing factors on quality of life of older persons in southern Bangladesh. Data were collected from 280 participants living in two southern districts of Bangladesh. Convenient sampling technique and inclusion criteria were used to select the participants. The study shows that the average quality of life score of participants was moderate. Depression, social support, health services availability, activities of daily living, and sleep problems accounted for the majority of the variance in quality of life.

Objective: understand the experiences of the caregiver and multidisciplinary health academics toward the development of self-care at home for elderly after cerebrovascular accident. Methods: qualitative study with the use of semi-structured interviews with six caregivers and eight academics whose data were analyzed in the light of the Phenomenology. Results: three categories emerged: living with the challenges and limitations imposed on the caregiver and on the person being cared; the professional being and the technic conservatism; the multidisciplinary team at home: experiences with the caregiver andthe person being cared. Conclusion: caregivers of elderly who went through cerebrovascular accident need more supportand guidance for conducting home care, they need a plan of care to facilitate and encourage self-care, minimizing the burdenincurred to the caregiver. Multidisciplinary academics displayed a technical view. This demonstrates the need for change in academic education with more focus on a holistic and humanistic view of care.

RESUMOEste estudo objetivou estimular a reflexão dos cuidadores de uma Instituição de Longa Permanência (ILPI) sobre o serviço prestado a idosos, a partir da vivência pessoal de características próprias da velhice. Realizou-se uma oficina chamada "Jogo do envelhecimento", em outubro de 2015, em uma ILPI da região dos Campos Gerais, Paraná. Esta oficina inseriu-se no Projeto de Extensão "Inter(ação) na terceira idade: atenção multidisciplinar a idosos institucionalizados e seus cuidadores formais", desenvolvido por docentes e discentes do curso de enfermagem da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa. Participaram 16 cuidadores formais, sendo a atividade realizada em quatro ambientes simulados: farmácia, supermercado, restaurante e instituição de saúde. Após, os cuidadores relacionaram características vivenciadas na oficina com idosos residentes na instituição, refletiram sobre o cuidado prestado e a necessidade de atentar para as alterações do envelhecimento. A capacitação dos cuidadores quanto aos problemas vivenciados por idosos mostrou-se como uma tática benéfica para a melhoria da assistência em ILPI.Palavras-chave: Cuidadores; Instituição de Longa Permanência para Idosos; Idoso. ABSTRACTThis study aims to describe a workshop designed to stimulate caregivers of a long-stay institution for elderly to reflect on the service provided to them from personal experience and from the particular characteristics of old age. In October 2015, it was carried out the workshop Jogo do Envelhecimento, in a long-stay institution for elderly of the region of Campos Gerais, Paraná, Brazil. This workshop was part of the extension project "Inter(action) in the elderly: Multidisciplinary attention to institutionalized seniors and their formal caregivers, " developed by teachers and students from Nursing course of State University of Ponta Grossa. Sixteen formal caregivers took part in it and it was conducted through simulation techniques in pharmacy, supermarket, restaurant and health institution. Afterwards, the caregivers shared their experiences in the workshop with the elderly residents at the institution and reflected on the care provided and the need to pay attention to the aging changes.
