Objective: to analyse the differences between genders in the description in the professional, domestic and total work hours and assess its association with health-related behaviour among nurses. Methods: this is a transversal study carried out in 18 different public hospitals in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The data collection procedure was based on questionnaires. All nurses working with assistance were considered eligible (n=2,279). Results: men and women showed significant differences in relation to working hours. The female group showed longer domestic and total work hours when compared to the group of men. In contrast, the number of hours spent on professional work was higher among men. For the women, both the professional hours and total work hours were often associated with excessive consumption of fried food and also coffee, lack of physical exercise and also the greater occurrence of overweight and obesity.Conclusion: both the professional hours and the domestic work hours need to be taken into account in studies about health, self-care and also the care provided within the context of nursing workers, particularly among women. The results add weight to the need for actions for health promotion in this occupational group and the importance of assessing the impact of long working hours on the health of workers.

Objectives:To identify risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus, among nursing workers at the State Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology Luiz Capriglione. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which were applied two data collection instruments that included open and closed questions related to the health status and lifestyle of 100 nursing staff of the health institution. Also the biochemical and anthropometric nature of data were verified. Results: The results confirmed the occurrence of reversible major risk factors, emphasizing physical inactivity and obesity. Conclusion: Developing actions aimed at promoting health is considered important, focusing on prevention of chronic diseases and conducted in their own work environment. Métodos: Estudo transversal com aplicação de dois instrumentos de coleta de dados que incluíram questões abertas e fechadas relativas ao estado de saúde e estilo de vida de 100 trabalhadores de enfermagem dessa instituição de saúde. Foram ainda verificados dados de natureza bioquímica e antropométrica. Resultados: Os resultados confirmaram a ocorrência de importantes fatores de risco de natureza reversível, destacando-se o sedentarismo e a obesidade. Conclusão: Considera-se a importância do desenvolvimento de ações visando a promoção da saúde com enfoque na prevenção de doenças crônicas, a serem realizadas no próprio ambiente de trabalho. Fueron también verificados datos de naturaleza bioquímica y antropométrica. Resultados: Los resultados confirmaron la ocurrencia de importantes factores de riesgo de naturaleza reversible, destacándose el sedentarismo y la obesidad. Conclusión: Se considera importante desarrollar acciones que tengan por objetivo la promoción de la salude con enfoque en la prevención de enfermedades crónicas, a ser realizadas en el propio ambiente de trabajo.

O estudo teve objetivo de desenvolver um questionário sobre hábitos relacionados ao trabalho (QHT) e verificar sua validade e reprodutibilidade. As etapas do QHT foram: observação de campo e revisão teórica sobre hábitos relacionados ao trabalho de profissionais da área da saúde; descrição e conteúdo; validade de conteúdo e reprodutibilidade. Para análise dos dados foi utilizado estatística descritiva (validade de conteúdo) e percentual de concordância(%C) e a medida de concordância Kappa (reprodutibilidade). Seis especialistas avaliaram a maior parte do instrumento como excelente, considerando-o válido em seu conteúdo. Os valores de Kappa mostraram concordância moderadas a excelentes entre as respostas(%C>80%), indicando ser o QHT um instrumento reprodutível. Apesar das limitações do QHT tais como ausência de questões sobre etilismo e desequilíbrio entre demanda de trabalho e disponibilidade de recursos humanos, o alcance prático do instrumento está na suafacilidade em obtenção de informações para conhecer o perfil e alguns importantes aspectos de rotina de trabalho dos trabalhadores da saúde, útil para avaliação na área da Terapia Ocupacional.
